I checked it out. Mostly northern baja. Pretty basic information. But potential if more people write articles and post classifieds.

Looks more like just another tourist guild. Bla bla bla

Old people are like the old cars, made of some tough stuff. May show a little rust, but good as gold on the inside.

Dennis, they contacted me to ask for articles (when I asked them how much they pay for articles, they didn't reply) and then by chance I met them at Baja Bound in San Diego... Nice guys, but are seeking free contributions for their online mag. I wished them well... I think there is plenty of info. and stories about Baja on-line now (mostly on Nomad), so don't know how well they will do until tourism returns, etc.

Thanks, David. I do know them and, believe me, this is a "for profit" venture.
Reminds me of a common scam in that industry. They'll organize a Photo Contest with publication being one of the main prizes along with some pocket change.
What isn't mentioned outwardly is that all submissions become the property of the organizer to be used when and wherever without even so much as credits.

Now, I want to be clear that these guys haven't done this............

That was the impression I got... otherwise, I am happy to GIVE my research and photos with just a credit mentioned... which I do here on Nomad.

Businesses who benefit from interesting or informative posts or have adverisers, etc. are expected to share a bit with others that help in the publication either hired on as employees or pay for an independent writer's stories.

All I did was ask what they paid for articles... and no reply. So, I figured out what they wanted... and when I met them, wished them well. Perhaps someday, they will pay for stories...?

Probably not if they don't have to. Vanity is a strong draw, almost an emotion, when it comes to seeing one's name on a byline.
This Emag, BajaYes, is going for the advertising dollar. That's all there is. We'll see if they survive.
The large, glossy ads in the inaugural edition were gratis to the advertiser. Who would spend the normal rate on the gamble of a first edition?
It has become known to me that following ads will be anything but gratis. That's all good. It's business.

Having had message board dealings with the two owners, I know of their editorial leanings which they intend to feed their readers, that life in Baja is carefree and crimefree, or that tourists are immune to the mayhem that is ripping the country to shreds. That, to me, is disingenuous to say the least. It tends to dilute my sincere well wishes for the success of this venture.
