TECATE ROAD UPDATE

Just in from the wandering Nomad who wishes to stay undercover:
-------------------------------------

Came back this morning to La Mesa via my usual Route 3 to Tecate. Still no center
line or edge narker reflecters, but the good
news is the road is fine EVERYWHERE!!

About 5 VERY SHORT unpaved sections, nothing to worry about at all; no standing water anywhere, or mud. No pot holing or
wash boarding, however, the two little sections about 40 miles up from route 1 that cleave through parts of a foothill base: watch
for fallen rocks on the asphalt roadway.

Other than that, this mornings drive was the most hazard free straight forward return trip I've had in months; piece a cake at 4, should be just peachy in daylight.

When last I drove it, near the summit, it did not appear that they had even graded that area. That said, sound like good news, with the exception that when this route is totally complete, I fear its attraction will only serve to gum up the wait at the border, in that there are so few gates there.

I know. Some people are never happy. :P

Highway 3 offers a much shorter route to Ensenada from the rest of Mexico, and thus cargo trucks heading there or down Baja... that is until Hwy. 5 is completed to Laguna Chapala...

I doubt if Mexico put much thought into widening Hwy. 3 for American tourists to get to Tecate easier or faster. That it will be the case, I don't know... The miles of mountain road from Tecate USA back to San Diego still may be enough reason to avoid for many.

It wasn't crowded when the road was in good shape. I doubt much will change. Like David said.....Hwy-94 will scare off a lot of drivers.

94 from Tecate is horrible.... Many times I've been chased by Banditos that I'm sure wished to kidnap me. cut off my head and rape my neck!

Avoid Hwy 94 at all costs!!!!!

Last time thru at Tecate was a smoooooth trip south.. NO red light even tho I was packed... only way I travel!

I guess this will never end.
Oh well, we'll like it when it's over....if the shippers don't completely take it over, that is.
I think two parts are completed, the two ends.

...and those are the American bandidos...the worst! A woman tried to kidnap me two weeks ago at the Dulzura Cafe. I raced to the Mexican border where I knew I would be safe.
