Roads to Sierra San Pedro Martir and Laguna Hanson-- not advisable to go!

We got over 5 inches of snow here at 5000' but the park up top got over 15" so its not doable in in 4WD. Best to wait a few days! Same with Laguna Hanson!

Our freinds up at the condor station got to the forestale station and then had to put chains on. But they have snowmobiles too ;>;)

Bet lots of unaware Mexicans are on their way up to see the snow with bald tires and 2WD anyway......:o

It is indeed a breath-taking view today. My Wife shot a few pics and stiched them together.

Very nice. I'm sure it will be clear and cold tonight. Light a fire and look at the stars, from inside.:)

Yep its facing east towards the parque national. Melting quickly today, its already 14 C! Probably just above freezing at the park.
Smells super clean the air today!

Si. Gracias.

Surprised there isn't more conifers at that elevation. Much different than the Laguna Hanson area. Seems rather scrubby.

More concentrated and trapped water in the Laguna Hansen area, and conifers like water, is my guess Hook.

Taller mtns at SPM, so perhaps winter-time orographic rain falls at higher elevations, relative to Laguna Hansen (at coastal areas, precip at SPM's latitude probably less than at LH latitude [of course, anthropogenic global warming may change all this]).
The SPM plateau has lots of conifers at higher elevations on the plateau, in background of astrobaja's picture.

wanna see lots of snow and conifers in baja, in real time? here is webcam at crest of range:

So CAl has just as much snow. No more. Go to Big Bear and then down to Hermosa for a good swim.

Shari: yeah but the winters back in Ontario lasted nov-april. The snow here is already 90% gone! ;)

Hook: we actually do have quite a few pines here you just can't tell from the tiny pic and poor resolution. We have pinion pines, jeffries pines and even a handful of incence cedars! We're in kind of a transition zone here between high desert scrub and oakwoodland/pine forest. In ecology its called ecotone. Means we have lots of diversity here!

That's a great photo! We camped near snow when we were there in the mid 1950's on a Easter vacation hike. Barry would probably remember that.
