Road conditions 25 March 2011
Lots of cattle on the road from el Rosario all the way near Guerrero Negro (be careful).
At least 10 bridges under construction all along the highway, some have paved detours, others don't.
Stretches of bad road betwen Cataviņa & Guerrero Negro.
At least 5 military and 2 federal police checkpoints.
Lots of goats on the road from bahia concepcion to Loreto.

Jesse,
Thank you for the road report.
Seems like a lot of check points, more than usual? The authorities must be looking for someone "special". The seven checkpoints you are telling us
about are located between? And are they stopping traffic in both directions?

2 federal checkpoints where not permanent, locations:

Rosario
Near Guerrero negro
San Ignacio
Loreto
Sta Rosalia (federal police)
Stopping both north and south traffic, but checking mostly cars driving north.

we encountered a "NEW" checkpoint going north on this past monday at the military campo in catavina. the check point on the hill north of santo tomas
has been moved to just south of the urban sprawl that is maneadero. the boys are still professional!
if you long for the "old days" of baja, maybe the road around El Pedregoso to 15 miles south will make you moist! you can see 3-4 layers of asphalt in
the beat up pot holes while feeling the rubber being removed from your tires...... i think i lost 5000 miles off my tires down and back.

Always have wondered how miles and miles of smooth pavement, along with highway improvements, such as wide shoulders, could suddenly turn into an
E-ticket ride, Just don't grasp how the various segments of what is supposed to be a federal highway, can be so inconsistent.
