Land Connection
Anybody know about how long the strip of land connecting B.C. to the mainland is? (The land itself, not the International Boundary.)

If you don't call the Colorado River "Land", there isn't a land connection. The river is the border between Baja Calif. And Sonora. Of course it's
dry most of the time as the Morales dam near Algodones diverts the water for agriculture in the greater Mexicali valley.
Although it wanders around a lot, as rivers tend to do, it would be around 86 miles from San Luis Rio Colorado to where the river enters a marshy
area (when there was water) and another 26 miles or so till it clears Isla Montague.

You're interest in this area coincides with a flurry of small quakes on the San Andreas which runs through it.

Hi Lee... in a straight line on the map, from San Luis to the gulf (where the mainland (Sonora) is connected to Baja is 57 miles... As Jesse noted,
pretty close to 100 km.
If you go along the river bed... with all the twists and turns, I measure it about 70 miles.

My guess is that the new breed has a lot more to b-tch about than the previous generations, look at all the stupid laws that are now on the books. You
can't do jacksheet in the states anymore, everything is either illegal or closed. Where I grew up in WA damn near all forest access of my youth has
been closed off and you can't hardly fish anymore (not that there are any fish to catch anyways)...I live in baja for more than just access to great
fish tacos.
I bet there was a whole of b-tchin' going on during the great depression too.
I think my grandparents lived during the golden yrs, even with the depression.
b-tching doesn't mean that people don't help one another, it just means that they are frustrated and need to vent.

I don't think there is any more or less bit*hing going on. There is a lot more communications with cable news 24/7, sports radio 24/7, news/talk
radio, the internet with news/sports 24/7 and emails, twitter, facebook, youtube, etc. Use to be you read the paper and got a 15 minute TV news in the
evening and maybe some radio news. Nows it's everywhere.
But you know something interesting. Go to Baja and shut off all the communication devices for a few days and see how relaxing it can be. When you go
home and turn all that stuff back on it's like you never left.

Good point, Lou, whats left of the Colorado River would serve
as a 'non land connection' with the Mainland as it
trickles into the Cortez, splitting hairs a bit

My neighbor to the south! We used to walk the railroad tracks to edmonds and then take the bus back home when we were kids.
It sure has changed for the worse these days. I loved it there as a kid. We would walk down the hill to the pier with rods and crabtraps and fish all
day/night. When we got cold we would walk over to a Taylor's landing, and get bowls of clam chowder. Our crab bait came from Mcconnels bait/boat house
...both are long gone....what a shame it is.

We owned a place on Whidbey Island for about ten years and I cannot tell you how many times we took the ferry in and out of Mukilteo. Finally decided
that we preferred a more tropical climate. But, geez, it is so beautiful there. Especially when the sun is out.
