Puerto Nuevo Restaurant owners ticked-off at new Parking Meters

http://www.frontera.info/EdicionEnLinea/Notas/Noticias/15042...

25 of the 28 restaurants in Puerto Nueveo are suing the city of Rosarito over the new parking meters- which they claim will hurt their business. But the city of Rosarito has a contract with the owners of the meters and they will have to pay 10 years profits if the contract is cancelled- to compensate them for the expense of putting them in. So off to court... Don't know who thought the concepts of new parking meters and attracting tourists worked together. Yup- still stuck on stupid.

Wow,

They just finished the roadwork that blocked the entrances, now meters to pay for it. That should help kill the business that was almost dead already.

I'm only guessing- but it's likely the Torres administration made the contract deal before Mayor Robles took office in December. I'd follow the money on this one, the meter company must have taken care of someone.:rolleyes:

couldn't the businesses there get together and lease an area and offer free parking? or maybe valet/shuttle service? I know the city entered into a stupid contract but there may be ways around it. I worked in cities that had meters and restaurants would feed meters of customers or validate tickets of private lots. you can't just open your doors and expect to win business.

Just what those struggling restaurants need: more expenses.

Who enforces the meters?

A lifetime of selling Chiclets and nobody knows what to do about the meters? What could possibly fit into the coin slot and be very difficult to remove? The hint is in the first sentence of this paragraph.

They are covered with black trash bags today. Swung by after picking up some clams at Popotla and took a 20 second video:

Possibly because of the pending litigation is my guess. Can one still park outside the entrance for a couple of bucks?

Their just another profit center for the local cops. Working or not, they'll be charging the Gringos parking tickets for not putting money into the broken/jammed/missing parking meters.

Don't follow leaders, watch the parking meters.
