Rinnai R85 Tankless Water Heater Repair

So several years ago while building mi casa in San Felipe, I considered getting a tankless water heater, but thought, to much money and to many technical issues, if it doesn't work.

And one day, while purchasing cabinets for my casa, at a Phoenix builders consignment store, I am checking out and see a brand new Rinnai water heater. I ask if it is NG or LP and she responds, LP.

So I ask, how much?

$250!!!

I'll take it!!

So now I start worrying, how is this going to work? Does it work as good as advertised?

So I get it down to the casa, spend about an hour hooking it up and low and behold, it worked and worked great.

So for several years it has been a great asset.

About November, it started acting up. It would come on, and then quit and give me a code 12 error.

I tried everything, but no go.

So I decide to purchase 2 new Heat Pump Energy Star water heaters for my house in Phoenix so I can get some Obama buck's rebated.

I take one of my extra water heaters down to SF and install an electric model.

I take the Rinnai back to Phoenix and was going to try and sell it cheap or cash in the copper for some cash.

As a last ditch effort I called Rinnai and of course, not being installed they have no way to get it repaired. They suggest I call around Phx to their authorized plumbers.

The last guy I call has a setup to work on them at his office. Come to find our he has a contract with the Army and they use them at remote locations and when they crap out the send them to this plummer and he repairs them.

I take the unit to him on Friday.

He calls me today to let me know it was ready to go.

"What was wrong?" I ask,"nothing" he replies.

He tested it for over an hour and came to the conclusion it was probably bad LP.

After I thought about it I realized it started acting up the day I put new LP in the tank.

Anyone else every have bad LP?

If so, how did you deal with it?

From everything I have read, there is nothing about bad LP.

I just refilled the tank and will try to hook it up again to see if it works.

But, I have had bad LP's and bough CD's to replace them:yes:
