Killing in Cabo hotel lobby

Farther north on Mexico's Pacific coast, a young man was shot to death in the lobby of a luxury hotel Saturday in Cabo San Lucas, the Baja California Sur state prosecutor's office said. State police said the man was hit by seven bullets in his back and head, but did not provide details of a possible motive for the killing.

It was unclear if the killing was drug-related. Drug gang violence — which has claimed more than 34,600 lives in Mexico over the past four years — has been extremely rare in Cabo San Lucas, a resort dotted-area at the southern tip of the Baja California peninsula.

The info coming out is that there was a fight in a bar, and one of the men involved in the fight was followed to his hotel.

Very distrbing and surprising! Few people have guns except La Policia y Militar and the Cartels?! Yes, there have been a few instances but overall very few. If you believe Norte and J Navarette you would think this happens frequently? Not! Let's hope this is just some Holiday Madness. Yes, I lock the gates and doors at night. No, I 'm not afraid! What do you guys think?:o Tio

2 groups of young men got into a fight in a bar and one of the groups followed the victim back to his hotel where he was shot with a 9mm.

"seven bullets in his back and head"

I think it's safe to say this was not a random shooting nor an innocent bystander. (Don't mean to suggest he deserved to die, but it wouldn't be thee nor me.)

Send a clear message to the Mexican Gov. No more visits until they clean up the lawlessness. What other counrty is finding mass graves every month.

The shooting apparently is a professional hit, 9mm, 7 shots to the back of the head. There are some officials(?) who have said the victim, Gabriel Gonzalez Lazcano, had links to organized crime, with Beltran Leyva cartel.

http://peninsulardigital.com/mas/extra/establecen-“filtro-po...

"Informal descriptions of the facts speak of a single gunman, a man between 20 and 25 years old who shot at close range to the now deceased in the lobby of a luxury hotel in Cabo San Lucas using a 9mm gun for the exclusive use of the armed forces Mexico for which it has been hypothesized that the facts may be linked to organized crime activity."

Except for the mass graves found on the east coast in the NY/NJ area over the past few weeks??

Let's face it, if you do the research, the US has probably more killings/homicides per capita as Mexico. And Mexico has far less than many country's in Central and South America

The problem has to do with how they are explained in the news.
If we said that the US had 35000 murders in the past 4 years, no one would come here either. However, we simply write it off to the region from which it came. i.e., Los Angeles had a gang related killing last night 4 members of XYZ Gang were killed in retaliation for something that happened a week ago.

Mexican murders are delivered in a similar fashion, in Mexico. But in the US, they clump it all together and start by saying,

"The death toll rises in Mexico to 36000 over the past 4 years since Felipe Calderon has become Presidente"

Now that being said, I am not ignorant and would discontinue my semi monthly trips down to San Felipe, if there were murders in town or on the way to San Felipe, near Mexicali, however, that has not been the case.

Besides, I live in Phoenix, and if you listen to the news, it is the Kidnapping capitol of the USA!!

Doing the math that makes the USA a winner in the murder rate game by almost double Mexico's.

The total number of murder's in the U.S.A. for 2006 ( 17,030 ) 2007 ( 16,929 ) 2008 ( 16,442 ) and 2009 ( 15,241 ) . At this point in time the murder stats for 2010 have not been released yet.
