The anesthetic is what's holding things up-- its kinda pricey at about $100 per bottle.
Its just not in the municipal budget to buy much, and I think everyone agrees on this-- you really want your dog or cat good and properly asleep for
the procedure. Yeoowcchhh...!
Dr. Baeza said if the anesthesia could be subsidized he's more than happy, ready and able to bring his team to any community in the municipality. He's
particularly interested in fulfilling the needs of the smaller, outlying ranchos and fishing villages such as up in the San Francisquitas and the
Pacific pueblos such as Tortuga and Asuncion.
Could we get a Nomad "Spend a Buck on a Pup" donation pool going?

How many dogs/cats can be served with one bottle?
Edit---Approximately as I know the size of the animal makes a difference. Thanks

[Edited on 5-20-2011 by DianaT] | Good question, Diana, and to answer that, well, I just don't know.
I've worked with the PAWS Clinic in Mulege for several years. They have different medications and anesthesia technique, so I've no reference point.
Having worked with Dr. Baeza and his team along with BajaBlanca last week in La Bocana, I will say that I'm impressed with the system of anethesia in
place. Its quick-acting and very efficient; the patients are first sedated in pre-op then quickly go "under" with another medication once brought into
the OR area. The recovery area is adjacent to the OR and patients are vaccinated and monitored for their breathing rate, color of tongue and any
possible post-op bleeding from the suture site. They wake up in about a half-hour still sleepy and resting, but in no pain.

I talked to the vets and they already have the anesthesia and are ready for any neighborhood ready to receive them !!!! Shari has offered the
housing, so you are all good to go.
Step 1 is to simultaneously start a list of dogs and the delegado/delegacion is the place to organize this.
and at the same time - call Jaine so they can come out this week (it is a good week for them) = the hospital to schedule is: 615 152-0789.
If you need a secretary - I can come !!

I forgot to answer the question about the # of dogs handled per bottle:
each bottle is enough for 10 dogs de[pending on the sizes, ergo I figured 3 bottles each to make sure at least 20 dogs (their average per day) could
be done in one session.....
