Chemo is Complete! (warning, Dog picture)

We may be back more often now that recovery from knee surgery and the last chemo is complete for our Maggie Mae. It has been a long four months.

But she is now ready to hit her Baja Beach running and so are we!

Hooray for Maggie !!!
Glad she'll be returning to Asuncion soon.
As a recovering cancer victim, she is welcome to fertilize our wildflowers to her heart's content !!

Gracias amigo, she will be happy to hear that. She has been the focus of our attention for the last few months.

So it is off to Diverlandia! She is ready.

I bet your looking forward to going back life as usual. I had a dog that had cancer and chemo. It was really hard and unfortunately not successful. I told my dog, Jasmine, that Maggie's chemo was done, she was fine now and she gave me a happy smile and a big wiggly butt. Wishing you happy, healthy days ahead.

Thanks for the good wishes---with her recovering from knee surgery and anal gland surgery, and the chemo, it has been a very long four months---but she is worth it, we think.

Another reminder to those owned by dogs. As a part of their regular check-ups when they get their shots, etc., especially with older female dogs, please be sure the vet does a rectal exam. Our regular vet does not do this unless asked.

The anal gland cancer is a very aggressive cancer and by the time a dog has symptoms, it is usually too late. The Magster's cancer was caught very early because of her pre-op exam for her knee surgery so the anal gland surgery was done at the same time.

Cheers to Maggie Mae!

She is a real winner!

Where did she get her chemo treatments?

Thanks, GJ

Thanks Igor---She posed real well. :-)

GJ
She had her surgeries and her chemo at the VCA Hospital right of Highway 8 in San Diego. Her first knee surgery was also done there as Dr. Holly Mullen was recommended to us.

Dr. Mullen is one great surgeon---remember those two Lab pups who had their ears cut off? Dr. Mullen is the one who took care of them.

Her Chemo and follow up is being handled by Dr. Sara Ford--- an excellent internal medicine specialist. And she has her own rescue foundation.

Maggie is receiving excellent care from everyone there. BTW---it is also an Emergency Hospital 24/7 and a training hospital for new vets.

Thanks for the Info, DianaT

It is something we will make note of and it is a great comfort for future reference.

We lost our terrific San Diego vet to retirement in Montana and several years ago we were referred to the famous facility in Rancho Santa Fe that does NOT take walk-ins (first you have to go to a regular vet they approve).

This group is a lot closer and less difficult to access, yay!

I love Baja dog pictures, especially one that come with stories! What a nice happy one this is, too.

Just curious, how old is she? My vet once told me some cancers in dogs show up around the age of 8. Mine was 8 when she came down with lymphoma :(
