Don-Kay's sad commentary follows . . .Back At The Ranch Or Cookie Goes To The Spa
At risk for some redundancy, we returned to the same ranch, same routine, but . . . this time going to groom Cookie's feet number one, and second,
continue with training the Indian Pony. Images that follow add a few details and views of the countryside.
Don Juan had a new saddle stacked on top of the one you have seen. This one is for his nephew. Additional layers including armor are not
illustrated. All the straps have specific function . . i.e. for canteen, lariat, camera (in my case), saddle bags etc.
I love dogs . . . this 3 month old Rotti is my admirable new favorite. His paws are like barbells.
Looking to the North a little past 6:30, morning . . .
Back toward the kitchen. Water was over the fire for the coffee.
Mellon was sliced . . .
Fridge . . . fresh goat milk on the left for the coffee.
We got into branding irons, this one David E. Cunningham . . .
Gabriel Cunningham . . .
Our host's iron, Juan Cunningham. His family immigrated to San Francisco in 1773 from Scotland. He has a 4000 hectare ranch up the mountain from
where we are. Ranch has been in the family a very long time.
Same routine followed . . . search for the string. This time, much deeper into the countryside, Juan choosing to cross splits in the earth at times.
With the engine turned off on the Jeep, he turns the key on then touches two wires together under the steering column to start it. In cruise, the
engine occasionally shifts to a whining neutral then lurches forward as the transmission engages once again. The whole is a double E ride.
We stretched our search never finding several more (they returned in the later afternoon, for water . . . near the ranch house).
Raymundo, on foot, was herding the first found to the ranch house.
Cruising . . . it's a cow, way out there.
Before we left for the morning roundup Cookie had her nails done. She made her morning appointment for a pedicure. She's getting ready for her baby,
you know.
Ladies near the salon.
Cookie enjoys the spa . . .
my buddy, was hanging by . . .
never really left . . .
Juan dressed the cinnamon with his new saddle.
Cookie again, liking the Latin spa.
The Indian pony was dressed carrying the blindfold but not using it. Second ride, he's near a veteran, performing extremely well.
The ride begins.

We came upon the missing band that would return to the ranch house, later in the day . . .

Yegua is the Spanish word meaning mare, a female horse. I intend to build a mule from scratch using El Senor Don- Kay, the stud, and a Yegua . . .
yet to be determined.
It's all in the genes. If there are parts or pieces or extra chromosomes, or a shortage of chromosomes, something is gonna look funny. Horse-donkey
hybrids are almost always sterile. Horses have 64 chromosomes whereas donkeys have 62, producing offspring, the mules, with 63.

The Indian Pony made his afternoon yoga appointment.
I look to have my Yegua/Don-Kay foal enrolled in 2 year old mule yoga classes the first months of 2014.

This thread in itself was a serious education, thanks. That is a beautiful saddle and that light horse with the dark head is a beauty also.

Don-Kay dropped in for a cold one last evening. Been hot.
It was to be a surprise, but on my porch he saw pictures and the idea that I'd written.
The black mare. Gawd how he was taken by her . . .
He muttered of sheer beauty and her subtle kiss . . .
and a song her eyes sang, from a juke box somewhere.
Words and a blush, as pubertal once more.
Way too many beers and even more tiquila, the ass began mumbling something about taking inside measurements. He stumbled off to stand behind a tree.
He finally heard my call out, "She's a man . . . a color example, nothing more!"
What followed would bring a lump to the throat of Charlie Manson. He'd empty his lungs with hoarsey rails, then suck for air in a sickening backward
bray.
He'll be back when he's ready to talk.
Only yeguas in pictures will follow.

I absolutely love reading your posts. Thank you for taking the time it takes to show us just a smidgen of your ranch adventures.
I am partial to the coloring of the Indian pony, sort of a buckskin. What about that one, Don Kay?
