Seven Sisters south road update July '11

3 weeks ago I did a little exploring and I wanted to share a little road/area information.

Despite what the maps show and previous BN posts say. The south road in from St Ros. is currently a high clearance vehicle road. Opinions about 4WD vary, but for less experienced drivers, 4WD would be used in many locations.

This road was graded, but now is very rough, rutted and sometimes steep with softball - grapefruit sized rock roads.

I did some exploring on the quad and realized I brought a knife to a gunfight.

I plan to explore the area some day, but I will bring another vehicle, more supplies and allow lots of time.

The Marines patrol this area and inspect campers, so you need to leave your herbal remedies elsewhere.

This area is rough and hilly. You definately want to look at a countour map. Side roads shoot out to the beach. and you must take the same road back out (need GPS).

There are dunes and blowsand everywhere and you can be cruising down a trail only to have it disapperar into the dunes like this.

I

and then like this

and then sand dunes.

There is also lots of silt beds like this (this one is small)

But the area is beautiful, so here is one GPS coordinate (just zoom in) of Punta ??? (major surf break)

I'm not an expert on this place, so please dont ask me lots of questions. I simply wanted to inform people of what they might need to have a safe and fun Baja experience.

Cheers, Curt

Coming soon.

When I got back, I had to locate, buy, fix and detail a couple of vehicles. Lots of work, but good fun.

I have driven some of those roads over the past few years but regrettably, never with a GPS to mark any coordinates. (Your safe with me Woody) The road conditions vary a lot based on rain and wind and I would suggest that if you do go it be in two vehicles minimum (in case one has problems), 4WD and aired down.

I pulled one Toyota out of trouble there - they had 4WD but not the sense to air down...

David,
Could you GPS those silt beds when you ride that area? I need some practice in that moon dust, as you suggested earlier :smug:

I'm seriously thinking of doing a pacific coast run to check out the surf fishing and sneak a pix of the surfers for the National Enquirer.

Ya Curt! Very rough and hard to get to...We did the sisters in the buggies (does that sound wrong or what?) and it is not for unprepared vehicles...even a trophy truck with us got buried in the sand!

On the beach somewhere....

Is it taboo to ask where Seven Sisters is located or what pueblo is near?

the sisters are there for the taking. it's their nieces and nephews that will never be tamed. just don't put names to fotos of waves, PLEASE.

leave something to the imagination for the next guy who follows the bread crumbs left by the internet.

can anyone remember how cool baja was the first 25 times you went WITHOUT A GPS OR TURN BY TURN DIRECTIONS? but i digest......

The sister's are not a secret and have not been for years. Some of us are trying not to contribute to the inevitable. We are trying to keep adventure alive in baja. Some will never get it.

The more people that travel down a road the better it gets. Even the really bad roads, get better with use. I have meet unprepared folks at the end of those roads because of this board. This applies to both sides of Baja. I get upset spending days helping fools try to un-screw their actions.
I almost posted up when somebody was asking for the GPS points for the 88. Some days it doesn't pay to chew through the restraints.

I understand from where you come from, and disagree. You refuse to see any other side then you own. You just don't get and never will. MMc

Curt, you know better! David K does not!! The Sisters does get crowded. There are hassles regarding who's who and what's what. Scorpion used to be difficult to get before Surf/wave ocean technology. Now it's crowded. A few hundred agro-max Surfos!! Do fishermen give away their secret fishing hole? Not! Quite simple--no surf pics or talk. Beautiful area for fishing or motos but don't talk olas.
