Trip Report - San Diego to Los Cabos
A few details about my recent Baja trip.
June 19 – July 6, 2011 2800 miles
Spent nights at:
Vicente Guerrero
Punta Abreojos
La Bocana
Ciudad Constitucion
East Cape
El Pescadero
Rancho El Conejo
San Ignacio
Boca Marron
El Rosario
Trip Highlights
Good times with old and new friends:
Chet, Becky, Ralph, Marilynn, Kevin, Blanca, Les, Joaquin, Dave, Mark, Sue, Tomas, Carlos, George, Kenny, Danny, Karla, Dave, Jennifer, Anton, Alberto
Marron, Mario Marron, Ed and Yoli
First solo baja trip (SD to Los Cabos)
First trip without a trailer (washboard roads at 40 MPH instead of 5 MPH)
First whole family Baja Trip (I drove and the girls flew into La Paz)
Mark’s beautiful home on the east cape
Great snorkeling at Playa Santa Maria
Best surf session in years
Rancho Pescadero Resort
Looking at amazing land to purchase (maybe?)
Mex 1 is really improving.
Camping at 2 amazing new beaches that go on my top ten list
Exploration of parts of the Seven Sisters region
Trip Bummers
Got lost in TJ looking for Corredor 2000
Overloaded ranch truck almost took me out
Family had stomach issues (local homemade tamales?)
Surf fishing – only 1 Bonita
Overall, another great trip. I felt very safe at all times. Friendly people everywhere.
Beautiful empty beaches, adventurous drives, great food, humble and warm people.
Baja is always an adventure!

Bummer on the Corredor 2000 lost... You don't get to it from Tijuana border, you use it to avoid Tijuana.
Otay Crossing south 1 mile to Industrial Ave/Blvd. (major intersection), then east 5 miles to Corredor 2000 entrance (Tecate Toll Gate is to the left,
2000 is to the right)... Follow signs for Tecate Toll Road 2-D from Otay Border.

I had one too, a near miss. A big rig hauling a trailer whose wheels were sticking out 12 inches beyond the middle line. I had my front tire off the
edge of the highway but luckily my hands were steady enough and turned the wheel just enough back onto the pavement. My inner dually stayed on the
pavement, which helped.
Ahhh, the dangers we have to face in order to enjoy Baja!!!

Way to go Curt. Looks like you had a killer trip. Solo trips can be so rewarding.

Did you see me on the Pez Gato in Santa Maria? I was snorkeling with them, about the same time you were there! Saludos, Heather

Were you the screaming drunk girl swimming in the swarm of beet red guys with enormous beer bellies while the guys on the boat threw cans of XX out to
you?
Yes, I saw someone just like you.
Actually, the cruise looks pretty darn fun and the snorkeling was excellent.
No worries

Nope Curt, that wasn't me, at least on this trip!
I was the one with the 2 little girlies and the teenager practicing their dives off the side of the boat.
I was enjoying the snorkeling, which I agree was rather nice....my family looked at a couple of fish and then went back for more diving practice...I
think one of the girls was actually practicing the paddle/surfboard that the guys have on the boat.
We've been going on the Pez Gato/Tropicat for years, and it's always a good time...you can't beat the drunken-tourist-watching!

Heather,
Sorry for the smartass comment. My Baja travel tastes are a little different than the fly in crowd. Is this the vessel you were referring to?
We were there on either June 28 or 29

Yea Curt, that's the Pez Gato...I got married on it about 13 years ago!
We fly down because my sister works for Alaska Airlines and we usually get a good deal.
We've made the drive plenty, too, and have a little place/camper in Cabo where my step-sons are now living. We left the car with them last year, so I
was thinking we'd have a vehicle when we got there this year...alas the car wasn't working (boys!), so had to rent one.
I've actually know the guys on the Pez Gato, since before I met my hubby (an ex-Cabo fisherman). So, we get pretty good deals on the boats, and have
to take at least one trip a summer with them!
I think we were there on the 29th, my sis flew in on the 28th, so we waited for her to go on the boat.
