Stewarts Raceworks Luxury Ford Raptor Prerunner video

There has been a series on the construction of the two Raptor Luxury Prerunners being built at Stewart's Raceworks in Santee, CA. Our son Josh is one of the techs at Raceworks, and this video (the latest) features Josh...

It gives some background on the development and describes the market for luxury prerunners... Craig Stewart (Ivan's son) is the owner of Raceworks, he and Josh's fellow tech Keith are also interviewed. The trucks are shown being tested out at Plaster City.

Awesome truck. Will they sell that truck eventually? Curious if they become available at some point, and what one might cost?

A guy could live for ever on that kind of money in Baja. As long as he didn't put it in the stock market.;)

Yes, he is my step-son (Elizabeth's son)... He has always loved automobiles and mechanical engineering... His mom had a Jeep CJ-5 all the years of his life growing up (so mechanical knowledge was madatory lol).

He graduated from WyoTech in Sacramento and Craig Stewart hired him directly from there about 5 years ago. How strange, as Josh's home was in Santee and to get into Baja off road racing (his interests were street rods)!

Here's Josh and his fiancé Jonna with us on Shell Island, 2 1/2 months ago:

....so, what's the difference(s) between a luxury pre runner and a trophy truck?

In the video, Craig Stewart does explain...

Basically a Trophy Truck is the racer... and there isn't a lot of room for people, gear and comfort. A luxury Prerunner is a 4WD, air conditioned, passenger comfort pickup truck... that can haul a** down the race course almost like a Trophy Truck can. A Prerunner is not the racer, it is for driving the course before the race, in comfort. Naturally, it can be used for any other pickup truck use, too.

After watching the video I'd say that truck is not street legal. Are there any original Ford parts apart from the sheet metal and the drivetrain? Air bags, legal bumpers, other state required safety equipment, etc. Could you get plates for one of those things? I suppose you could order a street legal version. Waste of money, but I'm El Cheapo.

If you watch the first video (and the rest) you will see the only original Ford portion is the cab frame (an F-150). The rest is all built by our son Josh, Keith, and the crew at Raceworks.

Both Luxury Prerunners ARE street legal and registered in Arizona.
