National Mexican health insurance plan?

Hello All,
I’am in need of a major medical insurance plan. My current USA (Cal.) provider raised my rates by a little less than 40% for an annual premium and that is in addition to a 20% increase last year. I have done a search through previous posts for Mexican health insurance and found only one old post (8-09). The info as you can imagine is quite dated. What I am seeking is current info on the IMSS program provide by the Mexican Gov. I have an FM-2 so I believe I have that one covered and I am in good health with no past documented procedures performed. I realize a physical exam is required and I have no problems with that. Does anybody have any other info on this program (deductibles, premium costs and/or website with info)? Has anybody signed up for this program and if so what were your experiences-good/bad? Also as another approach: Does anybody have any info on private carriers that will issue major medical policies to foreign nationalists in Baja?
In today’s health insurance climate I imagine that this subject is an interest to a fair number of members. Thanks for any and all replies.
D

no personal experience, but a suggestion.
go to the La Paz Gringos Group on Yahoo (sorry don't have address in my head, google it and you'll find it). they have recently had a very long discussion of Mexican health insurance, including several types.

reality\'s never been of much use out here...

Oh, oddjob, you must be mighty proud of your ignorance, that you should display it here (although, it's probably pretty safe under the trip reports).

What our friend here is probably referring to is the Seguro Popular--which IS NOT limited to "poor Mexicans," but rather, for people who don't fall under one of the other MANY Mexican government-provided insurance programs.

So, you see, oddjob, it isn't that I'm a parasite of the Mexican insurance for the poor but rather, it is that socialistic aspect of the Mexican government you must be objecting to.

So don't participate if it offends you so much. Go on paying those outrageous premiums in that "free market society" up north, if that is what you want to do with your (what must not be) hard-earned money. More power to you, somebody's got to pay so that those overpriced CEOs go on collecting ridiculous salares for doing nothing (speaking of parasites!).

There most certainly is but one side to every story: the TRUTH. Variations of it are nothing but lies.

Or you could buy private insurance, if you qualify. Full coverage is alot cheaper than in the US. Talk to an agent.
