You Think Baja is Dangerous?
Don't go to Acapulco.
http://www.foxnews.com/world/2011/08/20/5-decapitated-bodies...
"5 Decapitated Bodies Found in Acapulco"
"ACAPULCO -- Mexican authorities say two decapitated and scalped bodies were left outside a Sam's Club store in Acapulco and three headless corpses
were found on the main tourist strip in the resort city.
Guerrero state police say in a statement that the bodies discovered outside the Sam's Club were cut into more than 20 pieces. The skin on their faces
and scalps had been removed and left in a woman's purse at the scene.
The state police said the three other decapitated bodies were found Saturday in a car parked on the boulevard Miguel Aleman near a gas station 200
meters from the Sam's Club. One of the victims was a woman. The heads have not been located.
Nearly two dozen Acapulco gas stations closed temporarily Friday in protest of escalating violence."

It appears as though the violence in Acapulco has spread to the tourist areas as well. I saw a video where several mangled bodies were left in a
tourist area inside of ice-chests. Several tourist's found them and started freaking out.

when we were in Acapulco last Feb, I must say that it was one of our least favorite places....it felt abandoned, dirty, unsafe. I expected soooooo
much more and was very disappointed.

So it was abandoned in the high season now.
I was there Thanksgiving 2005 and it was busy with tourists.
I liked the city though; it felt like Tijuana on the beach.

What a shame. Had a great vacation there in '85. Wanted to buy a house there, I was so taken with the place. Whatever kind of water sports you
enjoy, Acapulco has a beach that will accommodate it. The pyramid hotel that old man Mars built, Sinatra's house on the bay, the Las Brisas Hotel .
. . all were a total gas . . . good night life, too. Bummer, glad I had what I had when I had it.

Why are there humorous comments relating to the brutal death of these people?

Deathly Humor
Age-Old and Why Not ?
Nobody here (likely ?) had anything to do with the acts.
They're done and a fact.
Syrupy Sympathy won't have any more effect than Acerbic Analysis.
Remember "If you can keep your head while all others about you are losing theirs, you probably aren't in Mexico".
Or, something like that.

Violence in Mexico just doesn't elicit the appalled or horrified response it once did. It's such an every day occurance.
When we stop seeing the sick humorous remarks as well, that will be an even worse sign that we're shutting out the reality of it all.

Dennis,
I agree with you. The collective (and individual) psyche gets numbed as the unthinkable escalates. The "sick humorous remarks" are some people's way
of dealing with it, but it is tasteless nevertheless...and offensive. What a sad commentary, huh?

Dittos and Amen
What's the Point ?
A friend once said to me (almost 50 years ago) that "Your Milk of Human Kindness dried up long ago".
My reply was "It curdled at Birth".
A "Bit" of an exaggeration, BUT .........
I've found most people pretend at sympathy over the fortunes of strangers to feel good about themselves and fit the acceptable societal mold.

Ya know, life is just what it is where ever you go. I have sooo many people here in San Diego who look at me as though I were crazy when I invite them
to go to Baja. My usual response to their questions about violence in Mexico is to ask them how they can live in San Diego and go any where with all
the violence here. I always have a couple of the latest examples in mind to remind them of, such as this in this mornings San Diego Union Tribune. I
usually end the my point by saying, "Well I guess we can't go to San Diego anymore and if you live here you better stay home and lock the doors
because I'm sure you're next."
SAN DIEGO — A man and a woman have been jailed on suspicion of kidnapping and sexually assaulting a 21-year-old woman who was found naked and beaten
on the side of a Spring Valley-area freeway Thursday night.
Catherine R. McCoy, 47, and Christopher R. Carrera, 32, were taken into custody Friday, San Diego police said.
The two are being held without bail on suspicion of attempted murder, kidnapping to commit rape, rape with a foreign object and assault with a deadly
weapon. McCoy also was booked on suspicion of intimidating a victim, according to county jail records.
McCoy and Carrera allegedly attacked the victim, whom they know, as she walked to a residence on Snowdrop Street in City Heights about 7:30 p.m.
Thursday. The victim reportedly was punched and kicked and forced into a white sport utility vehicle, police Lt. Rudy Tai said.
Carrera is alleged to have driven while McCoy beat and sexually assaulted the victim, and threatened to kill her,
Tai said Carrera abruptly stopped on state Route 125 north of state Route 54 and pulled the victim out of the SUV by her hair. He allegedly dragged
her over an embankment while punching her in the face and kicking her.
The two are alleged to have driven away, leaving the victim. A passer-by saw her about 8:30 p.m. as she came out of the bushes, naked and seeking
help.
Sex crimes investigators arrested Carrera in Chula Vista and McCoy in the Talmadge neighborhood of San Diego on Friday, Tai said.

I agree with you, Dick, but all of these generalizations need to be clarified. In the case of San Diego, City Heights and La Jolla shouldn't even be
mentioned in the same breath.
Do you know anyone who hangs out in City Heights?
I know you know people who hang out in La Jolla.

The same analogy applies in Mexico, Dennis. You're right, I don't hang out in the bad neighborhoods or with the bad guys in any country I'm living in
or visiting. Consequently I never seem to attract any violence or even see any. Seems like pure common sense to me....... I guess we're just the gifted ones Dennis.....
