As long as you aren't involved with drugs, Mexico is safe.
As long as you aren't involved with drugs or visit a casino, Mexico is safe.

"The attack was different than others in recent years in that the victims weren't cartel foot soldiers or migrants resisting forced recruitment by
gangs. They were part of the middle class, working or gambling in an affluent part of a city that was once considered one of Mexico's safest.
"The media impact that this has is greater, because we're talking about an attack on a civilian population of a certain income," said Jorge Chabat, an
expert in safety and drug trafficking at the Center for Research and Teaching in Economics. "Because who was there was from the middle class, the
upper middle class of an important city in Mexico."
Gee. How interesting. So it wasn't so bad when the victims were not from the middle and upper middle class, but rather from the same group that are
tacitly encouraged to go NOB at great peril to find jobs.
Not to mention that through and aide, Calderon was quoted as lashing out at the US government for its failure to clamp down on the demand for drugs.
Funny, in a way, but since the Mexican constitution limits its president to a single term, it's a moot point that Calderon has made himself a one term
president in every way.

At least in Vegas they get out alive.
Usually.
But, maybe it's like Debbie Reynolds said about LV:

Thats one of the dumbest quotes ever to be misplaced in a thread related to this form of terrorism.

This is a terrible crime and it's astonishing that Calderon's first reaction is to blame it on America. That is the response of a truly desperate man
at his wit's end.
It is long past time for both countries to legalize the damn stuff, tax it and turn it into a profit-making business. Use those profits to provide
treatment-on-demand for those with enough brains who want to get the monkey off their backs. I know, it's not ideal, but at least it's a way to get a
handle on the problem.
But since the graft from the drug business as it's run today puts 6 billion dollars a year into the pockets of the politicians, police, military,
customs officials and the banksters, it's not gonna happen. Drugs inject 18 to 47 billion dollars a year into the Mexican economy, and without it the
country would fall into profound recession.
The casino burning should be a game changer -- but it won't change a thing, the status quo is too profitable for too many powerful people.

When you do that, you compound the problems throughout Latin America. Think about it for a minute.

The SPREADING Terror
I just heard where the Old Folks up here are checking with the Senior Center to make sure they've paid everybody off before the next Bingo Session.
It may be just a rumor, of course.

This appears to not be focused on the innocents, but more the casino itself. The 53 people killed got caught inside.
the link below shows a video from a security camera. They cartel guys came in and set the place on fire. You can see lots of people escaping from the
entrance. If teh cartel guys were there to kill as many as possible. They would have opened fire on those fleeing, but they didn't do anything of the
sort.

The night before Hank Rhon had 2 of his casino's attacked. We'll probably see in the end that the casino has links to a cartel, and another cartel hit
this one in retribution.
Here are some more stories concerning the casinos.

Choyero is correct this wasn't a terrorist attack on Mexican civilians inside the casino.
This was a "Zeta" shakedown according to the Excelsior paper where members of the "Zeta" drug cartel demanded around $10,000 dollars a week from the
casino, but the Casino refused the demands.
The Excelsior newspaper reported that owners of the Casino Royale had refused to pay 130,000 pesos a week (around $10,000) demanded by
gangsters. The casino was attacked in January and May by gunmen who shot up the place but in the middle of the night, without harming anyone.
The Mexican drug cartels gangsters even told the casino patrons to get out, but instead many fled back into the casino and died of smoke inhalation.
Before leaving, the gunmen ordered gamblers and employees to get out, witnesses said, but many instead fled to other parts of the casino, only
to be trapped by blocked exits.
It's still a major tragedy because so many innocent civilians died, but there is a small comfort knowing Mexican civilians weren't the direct
targets, and the drug cartel fight is still mainly against each other and the Mexican government who raised the stakes in this 'war on drugs" they
can't possibly win.

Extorting from illegal casinos? Our friends in Monterrey call them narco-casinos. Yes, it's about cash flow. These type patrons aren't dropping
serious coin at theses casinos- just having fun. Kind of like a Rosarito hotel claiming 80% occupancy when the town in empty. All that money coming
back south has to go somewhere.

CASINOS IN LA PAZ

It seems to have escaped someone's attention that Baja California Sur is a state within the country of Mexico.
There are three casinos in La Paz. I don't know how many there are in Cabo.
Major narco trafficantes have been arrested in La Paz. Local businesses have been implicated in the laundering of drug profits. It is unknown how
many other trafficantes and accomplices reside here. What is not in doubt (to those sober enough to be aware of their surroundings) is that they are
here.
We longtime residents who have made major investments in Baja California Sur have every right and reason to be concerned about the possibility of
mainland violence erupting here.
