SCUBA in Loreto - is this a good price?

I've never been diving in Loreto but read it was good. Does anyone know what local prices at dive shops are for a day of 2-3 SCUBA dives? I'm advanced and won't need anything but weights and tanks.

Dive'nSurf in Redondo Beach (Los Angeles) has trips for $949 incl airfare from LAX SCUBA TRIP TO LORETO INFO *click here*
But this seems a tad pricey for 4 days.

Is it in the ball park or is it way too high?
Thanks for your opinion.

last time i chartered some in

they paid about $65-$75 for a 1/2 day 2 tanks dive in pangas. you can rent tanks and hire your own panga too but i recommend you do it with the shop guide. Villas de Loreto has a good dive operation in their hotel, do a package.

The Dolphin Dive Shop was in the Villas de Loreto, but has moved into town. We have been diving with them for years. Rafael Murillo Pelayo is the divemaster.

I second the recommendation that you dive with a guide. There are a lot of great places to dive around Loreto, and Rafael knows them all.

They have a website with prices listed...just google dolphin dive loreto and you'll get to it. Rafael is great. If for any reason he can't accomodate you, he can refer you to others such as Victor Vargas also a divemaster and instructor who recently opened a shop of his own.

Capt Mike,

Thank you, those prices seem about right for a SCUBA day trips.

The Dive 'n Surf trip is Sat-Wed and I was thinking that a Fri-Mon might fit my work schedule better and I really want to dive the area. I'll contact the dive operators to see if I can piggyback on with a group.

While I am comfortable SCUBA diving with just one guide, if the shop only had me as a customer I'd hate to have them abort a dive because of lack of patrons. I had this happen in San Carlos near Guaymas and ended up with not being able to get on a day boat trip for part of my trip.
