Ensenada - packed this weekend.
Quick check in via the wifi at Mi Kaza in Ensenada.
btw... the breakfast and service here are much better than I remember from last time. Enjoyed our visit with one of the Nomads here last time though.

Very surprised at how packed the whole corridor from Rosarito to Ensenada is with tourists. While it seems there are many visitors from the USA,
plenty of these folks are from Mexicali though - where current daytime temps are around 110-115F.
Seemed like last night the hotels/motels were filling up further and further out from the central tourist area as the afternoon went on. Almost
everywhere in Ensenada was full by the evening (those places in the central area anyway - did not go out towards Estero Beach area, etc to "check and
see").
Ate last night at Mariscos Playa Azul on Riveroll. Food's still good, beer's still cold, prices are up though. Good service, as always.
Again, the service and food this morning at Mi Kaza is rockin' and rollin'. Very attentive, lots of extra goodies on the table, everyone of us
pleased and satisfied with our food. Wifi's a major bonus - killing two birds with one stone.
Next up: Paella Festival at Castillos del Mar. 2pm.

It's nice to see that a restaurant in the center of so many high-end efforts can still pack them in by serving the basics. Seems most people just want
to eat good food rather than a plate full of art.

Glad that Ensenada is waking up from its 3 year nap. I have also been chatting with more Mexicali visitors lately. Cheers.

Glad to see some Tourism in Baja Border
areas, but in my circle of friends, and I'm only
70 mi. no. of TJ, there has been no change in
those peoples opinions of Baja Border towns, and
these are folks that in the past frequented Rosarito, typical
tourists who spent $$$, renting places like the Gaviotos
Condos for the weekend,spending $$$ in restaurants, tile stores,etc. They are shocked
that I still drive across into Baja. I think it very
premature to suggest that Joe Gringo US Tourist
has changed his mind recently concerning the
perceived danger of Baja. My observation is that US
resident Hispanics represent a good % of Ensenada
tourists and I'm not sure they were ever affected by
reported violence that that made a difference whether they drove to Ensenada or not
D, No offense, I realize there is a difference, but I'm using the Corridor of Rosarito/
Ensenada as one continuous avenue of tourist areas,

I can't help but think Rosarito has put itself in a catagory alone...very near the bottom of the barrel.

My wife and I visited Tijuana for the weekend, and the number of Americans there was right around 10. They were certainly dancing it up at Club Las
Pulgas, though.

We attended brunch at the Estero Beach Hotel yesterday (11:00 A.M.) and had to wait for a table! Haven't seen it that busy for a long time.

Most of the "activity" appears to have been along the beaches south of Rosarito, and in Ensenada.
After the (excellent) Paella Festival at Castillos del Mar yesterday, we stayed late, and went into Rosarito for late-night tacos.
Tacos were good. Streets there were deserted though. Maybe it was just that it was Sunday night by then... but then again, maybe not.
Just lettin' you know what I'm seein', and when.

noticed ensenada was packed also. i commented that a cruise ship was in port-wrong.
good to see people enjoying themselves in large numbers.....
