2011 Baja 1000 Race

SCORE has posted a proposed map for the 1000 race. Looks like a combination Baja 500 and SF 250 course.

Never seen the 1000 in real life. Think I may go camp at Punta Cabras to check it out.

Pole Line Rd. Baja

I'm thinking about getting the Jeeps together to run the Pole Line Road which will run near Stage 4 of this race. Tentatively, Nov. 19-22nd with a wind down in San Felipe for 1 day. Maybe, we will get a chance to buy Baja 1000 regalia in San Felipe! :bounce:

Lots of folks camp around there to watch the race, probably will be some pit action as well. Just be aware that it is pretty late in the race so you'll see most of the bikes and all of the cars after dark. You will also see fewer racers, in that attrition will have reduced the number of vehicles, both bikes and cars.

That will be pretty close to the half way point in the race, so the fastest racers will get there about 7 hours from when they start... If Trophy Trucks begin at 10:30 am... it will be dark for most of the four wheel action when they reach the sulfur mine.

An ideal spot would be along the section between Borrego Wash and San Matias Pass where the race runs twice!

Just figure 50mph for the fastest vehicles and plan on when they will be there. Everyone else watch for the headlights.

Exactly! The sulfur mine is about 350 miles from the start... at 50 mph = 7 hours. I am guessing the first bike will leave at 6:30 am and the first 4 wheeled racer (Trophy Truck) at about 10:30... ? just a guess based on past races.

Just over a month from now... expect an increase in area traffic and pre-running the coarse the two weeks before the race Nov. 18.

It's great to see that the 1000 will avoid the road south of Puertecitos to Gonzaga Bay...guess somebody finally figured out that the race wrecks the road. I know that SCORE pays the Mexicans for damage to the road but, of course, that money gets spent on stuff that is more fun than grading dirt that has a two inch washboard on top of race produced "swoopy doos" that put you into the air at any speed above about 20 MPH. The unpaved road south of Puertecitos has been graded pretty well to support the trucks on the highway project and another Baja 1000 on that part of it would wreck it.

I love the 1000 but "NIMY"....since the repair never, ever got done.

Speaking of the Baja 1000 ... just finished watching Bruce Brown's: Baja 1000.. which was brought up by another Nomad

Thank God HE did it and for the recommendation ... a real treat just to see Ensenada in 1968, and what MEX 1 used to be like ....

Not even talking about the race and equipment of that period..

The "old" days down in Baja... used to drive an old 57 VW myself ... forgot how good they really were .. down in the Baja... a really cheap off road vehicle for the day... got mine in 64 for $200 with a wrecked front end .. junk yard (WOW remember those days) $35 dollars for hood, two fenders and a windshield .. never put a bumper on it... license plate was held on with some #10 wire...

I'll be out on the course this weekend between Colonet and Pt San Jose.

We'll be just trail riding (dont want to spill my beer speed).

Definately one of the more dangerous things I do in Baja!

Sure hope a pre runner doesn't kill me

No worries
