Pottery

I'm doing a pottery run from Oceanside down to Rosarito soon. Anyone have a favorite pottery store in that artisan stretch from south Rosarito to Puerto Nuevo?

I went to Evergreen nursery yesterday and the $50 pots are the same you can get in Mex for $12.

Probably reasonable when you consider duty, transportation and labor.

We like the shop about 1/4 mile North of the shops in front of Fox Studios. It's a 2 story white building on the East side of the road. I think their name is Salvadori's.

The most beautiful pottery pots I have ever seen are in ensenada ...

Exactly, that's why I'm going to straight to the source.

Half the fun of Rosarito is the 'drive by' of all the roadside shops. "Keep going, keep going. No, slow down. OK. STOP. STOP HERE!!!"

And you forgot---
"There, there we missed the best one. Turn Around, please."

"I can't just turn around anywhere. There will be more! "

"No, please that is the best place. "

"OK, now we are lost and do you have any idea how to get back there? "

Have fun and I have also heard that the one SteveD mentioned is a good one. We have not shopped in that area for a while.

Seems like all the stores sell the same stuff, and many do! Our favorite is just across from Gaviotas. Just need some pots for some cactus.....

I love nice pottery In my collection I have some really nice Mat Ortiz pieces. there is a place in Ensenada where the Artsins show their work But most of mine came off of E Bay.
I would like very much to go over to the colony some day. maybe put it on my bucket list.

REAL artisans???

In La Bufadora, I picked up a Talavera fruit bowl that was signed supposedly in Puebla where they make the stuff, but how do you know the signature is real?

Our best pot from Mata Ortiz ----we have not been there for a few years, but it is a great trip. Take lots of bubble wrap!

But since ateo is looking for something for planting cactus, I don't think this would be appropriate.

For plant pots, as others suggested, we go to the Tecate area. It is just so much easier crossing the border both ways.

At the La Buf Mall, the sig is probably real if it looks like this:

Haven't been thru Tecate in about 5 years. I'll check next time I decide to bypass san ysidro. Thanks!

Ok, Tecate it is! Time to switch it up a bit and head east. Looking forward to it. Haven't been to Tecate since 2007. My wife can buy some pan, we'll go pottery hunting and enjoy the easier border crossing. DianaT, that pot is awesome! I'll take some pictures of what I get and post when I return.
