La Paz to Loreto

Driving from LP to Loreto this week. Does anyone have a recent road condition? How much time should I allow?

Allow about 4.5 to 5 hours depending on the speed you choose to drive and how backed up the military checkpoints are.

4 hours at 60 to 65mph. No checkpoints. Watch coming through Constitucion. Make sure you stop at every stop sign and watch for ones you wouldn't expect.

2 days ago - roads are fine with no major construction. The usual cows and burros.

Same as above but last week I encountered some heavy Fog! Especially thick in Insurgentes. New road finished down the Escarpment and into Puerto Escondido!! Smooth. Just watch your speed. Tio

As reported, road conditions were great. No checkpoint stops either, and no hassles in Constitucion. Road to Lopez Mateos is in horrible shape but they are working on it. Also took a side trip to Agua Verde. 20 mile dirt road. Gnarly at times. Was glad I was in a rental with high ground clearance. Beautiful scenery.

If you haven't been to Aque Verde yet, and have screamed by that junction. You have missed the opportunity of a lifetime to experience something unbelievable. The views are worth the trip to the beach. I still rememberr our first trip "in". And the first view of the coastline & valley. It's breath taking.
And there is a little restaurant down in the village. The food was good. And they could use our business!! They don't get many visitors. Brother sold his used travel trailer to a fellow from Point Reyes Cal. I think it was. He had a dog he would talk to in french. Quite a character. forget his name. He usually was bare ass naked when we'd drive up to his lot. Alas. He is now gone back to the states. Was losing his eye sight.

No lodging other than camping on the beach. There was a very small store. The drive was exhilerating! Spectacular views. Wouldn't want to do it during a rain shower. But i recommend it if you have extra time.

You can also arrange for meals at Rancho San Cosme at the bottom of the grade where the road runs parallel to the sea.
