Shooting at San Ysidro border yesterday leaves dead body in traffic crossing lane

At 4pm no less. Initial reports yesterday said this shooting was "close"to the border. It was close to the border, but even closer to the cars waiting in line to cross. Today's report says the shooting came from the row of shops located between the lanes and the dead body ended up laying in the crossing lanes. The four brothers shot were car-raggers... they guys who "clean" your car with oil rags for a few pesos. But this article says they were selling drugs.

TIJUANA – A man was killed and two of his brothers wounded in a shootout at dawn Thursday in the area of small shops near the San Ysidro border crossing.

The municipal police department announced that the shooting stemmed from a conflict between tenants and their landlord that had been brewing for several days, although no details were given.

The dead man was identified as Josué Rentería Moreno, 33, who received four shots from a 9 mm gun, the department said in a release.

The wounded victims were identified as brothers Eleazar and Noé Rentería Moreno, 27 and 37, respectively, who received gunshot wounds. A fourth brother was also attacked, but was not injured.

The alleged shooter was detained by municipal police agents. He was identified as Alfonso López Lázaro, 36, the landlord who rented to the brothers.

Police said the shooting occurred at 4:30 a.m. in the area where arts and crafts are sold out of small shops near the San Ysidro port of entry.

It sounds like the event happened on the Mexico side of the border. Methinks the drug sniffing dogs and inspectors are on the US side.

I got a call about this incident at 1pm yesterday- so the time was likely 4am, not 4pm. Not sure if this was a residential landlord dispute or over the arts & Crafts booth rentals. Car raggers don't have booths though.

I'm fairly sure these guys are only into car-ragging for 100% of their financial needs. Keeps 'em humble...

Rent to own?

Is it a package deal or can you buy just one?

Well, by golly....they should have a booth. Maybe it's time they started an Occupy The Border [OTB] movement.

I was thinking drive- thru table dances would be the best use for those crafts booths. Steering wheel dances?

fyi... not unheard of in Tijuana. There's a place (in a building) along the free road between TJ-Rosarito that's both a strip joint at night, and a church (at other times of the day/week/etc). Hearsay is it used to be (or still is?) a drive-in place, as they have a large warehouse door on the backside of the building.

I'm surprised it's still there. Then again.... :?:
