Thanks to both of you---we just love being out where one is alone---or at least one can see someone else coming for miles and miles.
Many people think of the Vizcaino as just a dry ugly place to drive through, and it is such a diverse and beautiful place!

No Cactus. No rain, me dicen. Scrub brush and blowing sand! It is unique but an Arrid climate! Asuncion is very windy in the afternoon. My home
here in Pescadero is very different. Vizcaino is more like Guerrero Negro north. It's all good and a varied climate.

The Vizcaino area includes areas for beautiful cardon forests, elephant trees, and many other large examples of vegetation. There are also the areas
of beautiful and pristine sand dunes, palm oasis areas --- a very, very diverse area. As Bajaboy said, so much to see and experience once one gets
off the beaten path.
The Vizcaino is a very arid area as it is one of the few fog deserts in the world --- a quite unique area.
I used to think of the scrub brush areas as just that---a lot of dry scrub brush. That was until we spent a couple of days in the field with a
botanist, a plant researcher and the Reserve representative----what an eye opener.
Hiding in that scrub brush is not only a plethora of species, there is a rather hidden tiny world of color. Here are just a few of little treasures
we found --- they were posted a long time ago along with others. I want to put together an album on photoshop about the Vizcaino, and will link to
it when that is done, but for now----
If one looks closely ---- they might find
Or examples of hybrid plants that do not become new species.
Or this little cactus that may look like many others, but Jon Rebman, one of the leading Baja Plant experts, thinks may be unique to the San Hipolito
area.
When it is windy on the coast, it is a good time to go exploring this very unique area.

Blanca, we were amazed----in very small area that all looked the same from a distance, there were over 30 different plants----some so very tiny.
Bacquito---yes very little human habitation in the deserts and it keeps them beautiful as they are so fragile.

Wonderful marco shots Diana! The desert is a special place for those who have the patience to look!
Here in the sierra we get lots of tiny tiny little flowers like that too. We are excited to be getting a couple of botanists coming to visit us soon.
One of them will be putting together a book about the wildflowers of the sierra San Pedro Martir!

I am rethinking this, and maybe we shouldn't tell people.
New information----the Vizcaino is a god forsaken place --- a place to just get past----ugly, dead, hot, cold, and should be avoided at all costs.
Nothing there to see.
