Baja Hijacking !

Anyone else tired of SO MANY threads being hijacked . . . Often by the same pompous pontificators who seem to have zero boundaries or respect for other posters. . . to some, ANY thread becomes their soapbox for their political rants or other off topic hijacks...

Reading about the couple CYCLING BAJA with their kids is a small example;

Blah blah blah . . . . . . talk about how underpaid schoolteachers in California are. . . I would have posted this earlier, but couldn't find the thread until now

Because this was a thread about a family cycling Baja !!!!

FCOL . . . Can't they take it somewhere else!

The hijacking on Nomad is reaching epic proportions.

IMO, We need some "AIR (head) MARSHALS" to combat hijacking....

Perhaps the option to "flag" hijacks somehow and an X # of flags... and it gets moved to off topic . . . Or?

Doug, this is a great board and service... I know I'm not the only one concerned and commenting about this.... And although a bit critical, admittedly, my interest IS in making Nomad more civil and fair (as opposed to "Fair Game").

Are there any examples of something that helps with this on other forums?

Other thoughts ? Or should I just fugiddabowdid....?

D

Its all just stuff and some numbers.

Sort of already works that way... manually though. I take into consideration what gets sent to me (and how much) via the "Report" button - which is on every post here. fyi.

It's really easy to highjack a thread. I find myself doing it too often with no intention to do so. In fact I just did it on willyAirstream's last post about getting fishing licenses. I mentioned there was a whale sighting here.

If it helps, here's my thoughts on your concern:

This is a discussion forum, and when people discuss things many ideas or opinions are shared. If you don't like the subject change, then reply on topic to get it back or just ignore the off topic sidebars. Try and enjoy forums for the things they offer. Perhaps the sidebar doesn't interest you, but could interest others? For one thing, it keeps a thread 'active', otherwise without replies, it will disappear down the forum.

If you believe something is way out of bounds then click the 'report' button next to the post so Doug is alerted and he does take action if HE believes it is needed. Otherwise, let's hope we can be adult about things and not get unfriendly here.

I'm fairly new this forum although I lurked for many years. I think you're onto something. Politics should stay in OT unless it's Baja related.

I wouldn't call that hijacking tho. You're just pointing out something interesting (a whale), not questioning Obama's birth cert.;D

JMHO---that type of hijack is somewhat of a drift and not annoying. It is when the political stuff starts with snide comments that are then answered, then defended, and then the one side bashes the other starts ---- it is what happened in the cycle thread.

Doug does respond to the report button ------US politics, opinions about US politics, opinions about religion, etc., I believe, all need to be in Off-topic. Or, as Doug often does, Xed out or deleted.

What were we saying? Another plane was hijacked? That's awful. Who did it?

What we need is a censor. No politics. No opinions. If it doesn't paint a pretty Baja picture, toss it. Dull? Yep!;D

Yeah....it was, although I looked around a little [not too much] for posts of mine and didn't see any. Must have happened during one of my forced vacations.

oh my gosh, Curt, ateo and Dennis....you all had me laughing out loud at your comments !!!!

OT is a wonderful place to put politics and really off the deep end comments.

I had never noticed the REPORT button ... amazing what one learns day by day.
