Ready-Lane Wrong
Back in October (Mexicali Garita Oriente) we waited in one of the regular lanes and wondered IF we could have used the Ready-Lane, but the signage
didn't seem to include a regular (new-style) passport.
SO, talking to the Agent, we asked "could we have gone through the Ready-Lane with our (RFID-embedded) passports" ?
"SURE" was the response.
Told a friend that had the new passports and who was going down to his casa the following week. Coming back, he waited in the Ready-Lane and then was
given a lecture about using the lane without the proper ID.
THEN, of course, I looked at the Website.
Kind of odd that the Border Agent didn't know.
OR, was having a hoot, maybe.

MrBill - I havent looked at the website yet but by what sign on san diego article says - one would assume that a passport with proper RFID would be
fine going across ....

How can I tell if I have an RFID passport? Mine was issued in 2009.
Experience enables you to recognize a mistake every time you repeat it.

Passport won't help you in the Ready Lane, you need an RFID enabled CARD, such as a SENTRI or a US Passport Card.
RFID enabled US Passports have a little gold square with a blue circle under the printing "United States of America"

What's the difference between SEINTRI lane and the Ready Lane ???
Is Ready Lane like SENTI ... but, no sticker .. ??

No interview for Ready Lane. Sent our passports in with the application and got the Card back several weeks later. Read the website. It gives you
the basics, WE will use it for the first time this Jan. Am hoping it will get us through faster!!!!!!! You hold your card up to the camera before
you get to the booth in "Ready lane". I understand that Sentri can go through there also but why would you? Sentri (of which we do not have ) is the
fastest. I have not talked to anyone who has used it at the East crossing in Mexicali but am interested in hearing about it. Nancy

We used the ready lane at Otay several times with our SENTRI cards while waiting for our new vehicle SENTRI approval. a couple of times 15-20 minute
waits.....one time, exactly one hour........the Ready Lane is being used mainly by Mexican Nationals with green cards to expidite their entry. I will
gladly spend the money for the SENTRI program.

Sentri-Ready-Regular
October. Mexicali Garita Oriente. Thursday 1:30 p.m.
Regular = about 50-55 minutes.
Ready = 15-20 minutes less.
Sentri = 30 seconds (?)
