Windsurfing Input Pls...

We live in Loreto and for a gift I'd like to give my husband some lessons in windsurfing and kiteboarding. He now does both...but can't 'turn' or 'tack'. Anybody online that has taken lessons and can personally share their experience perhaps in Los Barrilles or elsewhere would be greatly appreciated. Thanks...

Real-life lessons are a great way to advance.

There is one windsurfing/kiting combined venue (located at a hotel):

http://www.velawindsurf.com/html/pages/destinations/baja/tip...

...and several kiting exclusive venues.

All venues seem equally professional and equipped. Los Barriles can be challenging and a waterstart is improtant for windy days!

Happy sailing,

Highly recommend Marie Leclerc (pronounced "Mary") at Elevation Kiteboarding - located at Baja Joe's in La Ventana.

Marie runs the kiteboarding school - I'd guess all her instructors are great also (heard good feedback re "Robin").

They primarily teach kiteboarding - not sure about windsurfing.

La Ventana is an awesome place to learn - no worries about being swept out to sea, etc.

Good luck and have fun!

Also recommend Marie and a few others in La Ventana for kite lessons.
La Ventana is a much more beginner-friendly launch and learning area.
They take you up-wind near the big campground and you sail downwind back towards Joe's.

I second La Ventana for kitesurfing lessons. User friendly with a number of groups giving kite lessons. I just learned to Kite there after windsurfing 25 years. I learned form Bruce at Sheldon Kitesurfing. I am heading down for the first 3 weeks in January and it was very windy today.
For windsurfing lessons check out Wyatt Miller and his buddy Tyson Poor

Great instructor plus a really fun guy. He also has lodging rentals including gear and other toys.
Wyatt posted a great shot today on Facebook (http://www.facebook.com/#!/profile.php?id=100000992851478) from this morning surfing with an SUP on glassy waves.

Have Fun

Even the guys who have been boarding all these years agree, if you want to learn the kite, go to La Ventana, they are the best.

Windsurfing Input

Thanks everybody for your input. He can do a water start so looks like we'll be heading south at some point this winter. He took kiteboarding lessons in Washington but it's so dang cold to get in the water there...even w/ a wetsuit.
