Insurgentes/Lopez Mateos - Road Fixed!

I scoffed a couple of months ago when the attendant at the Pemex station in Lopez Mateos told me that the governor had visited town and announced that the road between Insurgentes and Lopez Mateos was going to be repaired after at least three years of neglect, and that the repairs would be completed by December. That the repairs were on the agenda was no surprise, but the quick turn-around given the deterioration of the road seemed a bit optimistic.

I should never have doubted the guv's ability to deliver.

The road has not been completely resurfaced, only the portions so riddled with pot-holes that prudent drivers concerned about vehicles' suspension systems and tires had been forced off the road onto the sand. But, pot-holes in the balance have been filled and the trip is now 55 mph on cruise control (if you keep a sharp look-out for local fauna, which is plentiful and diverse).

There are still a few remaining pot-holes as you enter Lopez just to keep you on your toes - probably funds to repair these would come out of a different pocket - but, all in all, what was a miserable trip is now a breeze.

The repairs are a little late for fall fishing outside Mag Bay, which has slowed considerably the past couple of weeks, but are right on time for whale watching season.

Great news, Bill, that new pavement looks inviting & smooth, which means no broken dishes in the RV.

Good fishing times or not, we're still going to explore the Bay and poke our noses outside. Thanks, Roger.

Roger.....I haven't given up on it yet, either. I made a 100 mile trip south of Lopez to the Potato Bank on a trip yesterday and the day before looking for yellowfin. They were there, but I couldn't interest them in anything I had to offer. I'll probably make a trip or two more for wahoo, and a couple more forays south for tuna before I write it off for the year.

Here's a link to a report of a good trip for marlin last week:
