and HOW doe you get 700 plus HP from a 302 CI V8?

I think they built it on the same platform as the V6 had which was small too. I can't remember if it was the V6 or the V8 or both had a throttle body
injector for each cyclinder. The V6 made about 380hp and I'm guessing the V8 probably made in the 500 to 550hp range. Not as much as the bigger TTs
but for his size and weight it was very competitive. The weight on this one is closer to 4500 lb where as the big guys are in the 6000lb range.

Not sure when SCORE started the Trophy Truck class, but before they did, Ivan raced the Toyota in Class 1 (unlimited single seat vehicles, at the
time), he was too fast for the pickup truck class in the 80's/ 90's!.
The full size 2WD pickup class was Class 8, and Walker Evans was the champ in that class in the 70's/ 80's... winning overall in the '79 Baja 1000,
ahead of the Class 1 and 2 unlimited vehicles.

SCORE Trophy Trucks started in 1994 with Jimmy Smith winning the class for the year and a $50,000 check. The center seat V6 truck Ivan drove in the TT
class was introduced in 1988. I think at the Baja 500 race. I have the video tape from ESPN showing it. I assume there was more than one truck built.
I think the V8 version was introduced in 1998, maybe 1997.

Trophy Truck class was started in 1992 with SCORE..
Baja 1000 was won overall (also class champs) by Simon & Simon that year..
Team photo we got was at the old Grand Baja in La Paz..
That was my first year working with FORD and BFG..
Jimmy Smith did smoke the class to win the 94' Baja 1000 out of Mexicalli in his Ultra Wheels Ford..

I just looked at the video for the 92 and 93 1000 races and Simon and Simons won OA in a class 1, their number was 120, no Trophy Trucks as did Ivan
in 1993 also class 1, his number was 125. Trophy Trucks did not begin until 1994. By the way Larry Ragland led much of the 92 race in his class 8
chevy until tire problems on the road to LA Bay held him up.

I stand corrected.. It was the Rough Rider program that started in 1992..
That image of Paul and Dave was just outside BOLA in the cactus near El Crecero.. I want to recall they were fist car to us at that point.. Then came
a Ford driven by Robby..

Simon and Simon were a great and fast team. Haven't heard much about them in the last few years. I remember and I have the video of the 1995 Baja 500
where their truck caught fire in the pine forest. Great video from the helo and Bob Bower and Dave Despain talking about it.

The Robby Gordon truck was actually a Gary Mechem (sp) starting position that Gordon bought because it started at the front of the line. Robby is
always exciting to watch.
