Mexico begins to strengthen tourism by advertising & promotion

In order to increase the number of national and foreign tourists, this year the Ministry of tourism (Sectur) and the Council of tourism of Mexico (CPTM) will drive the creation of new products for niche and strengthen the promotion of our country abroad.

Through a communique, the Unit noted that during 2012 it will work with the Promotion Council to raise the number of American visitors; accelerate the growth of the Canadian market; consolidate the promotion in key segments such as: culture, Romance, adventure, congresses and conventions, luxury and the traditional Sun and sand.

Adds that with these objectives, our country will become more tourists emerging markets, as well as the traditional ones: United States, Canada, and Europe.

To comply with the purpose of attracting more tourists, the Secretariat of tourism and the CPTM will strengthen the strategy of promotion on the internet and social networks.

He said that you for United States, which is our main market, it will continue with the campaigns "Mexico The place you Thought you Knew" and with "Mexico Taxi Project", which will increase the flow of tourists from that nation to our destinations. In addition to strengthening the work of public relations with tour operators, travel agencies, airlines and all actors of the industry at international level.

He explains that you as part of the actions for the promotion of our country abroad, the Ministry of tourism and the CPTM will strengthen advocacy of the destinations of the Mexican Southeast, which will have an influx estimated at more than 50 million visitors by the work of promotion of the Mayan world in 2012.

Next December 21, 2012, Mayan calendar marks the end of a cycle, so it will work on increasing the arrival of more national and international visitors to the five States with the presence of the Mayan culture (Campeche, Chiapas, Tabasco, Yucatán and Quintana Roo) to detonate the tourist activity of Mexico.

To domestic tourism, added, it will strengthen the work of promotion of our country through the new campaign "Mexico se Siente".

it seems to me that the mexican department of tourism and the department of fish and game need to put their heads together.

with the new FMM just for fishing is turning american fishermen off to fishing in mexico due to the inconvenience and the additional costs involved and having to return the document to mexican authorities.

there seems to be so many unanswered questions to this new regulation.

do we have to go to the border to get them and to return them ? there has been word we can purchase them from the big three fishing landings in san diego and hopefully return them to the landings as required.

does this apply to americans and other already in mexico only with the fmm document, not fm3's & fm2"s, i heard fm2 & fm3 holders are excluded. BUT, land fmm's are different from fishing fmm's.

doesn't sound too tourist friendly as there are so many people that cross the border JUST to fish and vacation as well as enjoying the baja experience.

there has been so much discussion on " bloodydecks.com ", an extremely popular fishing and hunting website. large numbers of members of the site are bailing on mexico due to the extra costs and inconvenience.

i cannot imagine what this new regulation will do to the sportfishing industry in southern california that ply mexican waters and also the private boaters as well, large and small.

also, the sportfishing outfitters throughout mexico but particularly, baja.

wasn't it about two or three years ago that mexico rescinded the boat registration fee and lost income from that acceptable fee.

it is my thought that the mexican tourism people need to have the fish and game rethink this one ?

my two centavos.

Mexico always has bad timing. 2011 crime reports (by Mexican agencies) came out this week and the tourist resorts and Baja in particular are getting much worse. So are the warnings from the US Gov't. It's a hard sell. Mexico still has some housecleaning to do before it can invite company over for coffee.

I've been to San Ysidro immigration four times in the last six months. I have done the dog and pony dance for many years now. Anyways, first time my wife and I got our tourist permits. The guys said the bank was closed at SY but we could pay at any bank during our trip. Unfortunately, they forgot to include the payment forms for the bank.

Next time down, I was with a friend and we got our tourist papers no problem.

Next time down, my wife and another friend attempted to get their papers. They were questioned by an official about walking to the immigration office but were finally allowed to proceed only to find it closed (not the office in front but by the entry gate). They spoke to another official who said not to worry about the papers.

Wife and I stopped at immigration three weeks ago and got a similar experience. We were told the office opens at 6am. We said f it and drove on.

How can tourists expect to follow the "laws" if the officials keep changing the target and rules? Maybe someone from the dept of tourism could post here on Nomads to clarify the never-ending mess....

hola Bajaboy,

please do not hold your breathe on that one.

seems the left hand never knows what the right hand is doing.

whenever there is a change in the law, any law, there are so many different interpretations, office by office, town by town AND CLERK BY CLERK.

i guess that's what makes mexico so interesting.

and sometimes, so damn frustrating.

It appears to be all about making money anyway you can...especially having an American work for free for the Mexican government in their last year of medical school while their Mexican counterpart medical students get at least gas money...$3000 pesos a month..Servicio Social is supposedly to "pay back" the Mexican government for giving you an essentially free medical education...ummm...excuse me..the only break I got was from the American government who gave me the loan to go to school in Mexico...

A good promotion would be to stop the Federal police shakedowns at the SJD airport as people are being picked up and dropped off.
