Favorite stops along the way:)
We are driving down Baja the end of this month. Crossing in at Algodones, first night San Felipe. Day 2, through Cocos to BOLA. Then on to Cabo. Need
help all the way with places to stay and eat. Any thoughts on Algodones map for route? Any help is appreciated thanks !

Most of the Yuma folks who go to San Felipe have said it is far faster to get down to Hwy. 2 & 2-D and take it west to the 5, instead of the more
direct network of farm roads... due to farm traffic, earthquake damaged roads, etc.

Amigos, be sure to go see the whales in Scammons Lagoon-Guerrero Negro or San Ignacio Lagoon out of San Ignacio! Also, one of my fav's is Mulege and
surrounding beaches, often a destination!! I live in Todos Santos so nuff said. Enjoy Tio

Good advice from David K on 2....why cross at Algodones....there's a newer station at San Louis Rio Colorado and it puts you directly onto the
highway...
I'll be doing this same route in February.... .....on motos.......

Nobody talks about this.
I find that a big bag of fresh tanagerines kept between the driver and copilot is unsurpassable as snack food. For some reason a tangarine consumed in
the desert tastes better than anywhere else. And way better than gatorade, soda, water, or beer.

China's ('Chee-nah') is the taco stand next to the market Lizeth... Great fish tacos and beef birria on Sunday morning!
Baja Angel had her first fish taco there, New Years 2005!

When I lived in Colorado, I always crossed at Algodones. I could do a little shopping and not have to worry about recrossing with my purchases.
(usually all those heavy bottles) Algodones has much better prices than San Luis on Liquor and medications. We would also find the crossing easier
because hardly anyone ever crosses there and we had less questions about things we were bringing in.
I always took the road out of Algodones towards San Luis and entered the four lane headed for Mexicali just outside of San Luis.

Pescador I still prefer the Algadones crossing for all the reasons you stated.

Casa del Sol (along the entrance road, on the right) has nice rooms (if the original ones and not the new building) and great food.
Just north of town off the Punta La Gringa paved road is the Villa Bahia B&B and Larry & Raquel's Motel/ Cafe, both well recommended.
Back in town, the Las Hamacas motel is very basic but the Las Hamacas restaurant has been good.
Guillermo's Bar & Restaurant is a bit more 'touristy' and his motel is on the sand in town. He served us 'scallops' that were really manta rey
fins cut with a cookie cutter (common)... according to Mike Humfreville who was with us then.

'las casitas' in Mulege is a grand restaurant,,,very nice courtyard,,,internet.
...and the whale lagoon bahia San Ignacio I've found to be better accessibility
...San Nicolas,,,,a ~1hr rough road but not necessary for 4x4,access about 1/2 way between mulege and Loreto,,has a sign,,,,,,is well worth the drive
if you're camping--very friendly locals ...beautiful but stony beach

*El Nido is one of the best restaurants in San Felipe for dinner. Go in before 5 for a discount. Domingo has been running this place for 40 years. I
order the steak. They have chops too.
*Saguaro del valle de los gigantes
A few miles out of town heading south, Well marked. About $5.00 to get in. DO NOT go all the way into the park unless you have 4 w drive. Sandy.

2 hours south of SF on a great paved road.
South of San Felipe ....this is a cool poquito town. Quiet, with a very great ensenada. Good secured camp spot ...though the restrooms are dated. Ask
for Clara, she is a S.CA educated woman that took over the camp from her deceased father. Good fishing off the ramp area.
Each camp site has electrical power. About $12.00 per day. Oh...and there is natural hot springs in the water.....make that a point to relax in. Paved
pathway to this area. You must catch this hot tub on the tidal changes.
Gonzaga Bay

One of the best kept secrets of on the Sea of Cortez! Great bay for sight seeing and fishing. Alfonsina has a small restaurant and a motel there. Very
good folks. Rooms are very basic. There is camping in the area too. Pemex gas station may look closed...go the rear of the station to find the
attendant.
Rancho Grande is right there too off the highway. Market, phone...even has ice.

We stay at Daggett's Campground...great sites on the water front....they have a little motels there too. The motel is NOT the Holiday Inn...but works
well when one is in need of a mattress. Make sure to go looking for the Big Horn Sheep in the area
Villa Bahia www.villabahia.com is a super place. if you are looking for a true Baja get away....this place is it. They have everything that one needs for a
good time. Small operation...right on the beach. away from the town. I included their webpage for you.
