San Ignacio whale watching
This was a trip we took a couple of years ago. We used Kuyima, they are located on the south side of the square in San Ignacio.
It's a 40+ mile drive out to the lagoon, any vehicle can make the rough trip out there.
One advantage to driving yourself, you can stop and enjoy the scenery.
There are camping opportunities out at the lagoon too.
Choppy was our Captain for the day.
Fernando gave the orientation meeting to all who go out on the lagoon. Some basic safety issues while in the boat and information about the whales
and the environment of the lagoon.
"spy-hopping" a whale behavior, was a common sight this trip. Tres Virgenes on the horizon, can be seen in a couple of photos! So clear that day,
they were visible at over 60 miles away!
The Captain will stop the boat quite a distance from the whales, sometimes they choose to come to the boat!
A baby, escorted by it's mom, came up close!
We even saw some mating behavior, warning this may be disturbing to some.
My first dork sighting, humiliating really.
A very good time, that ended with shrimp tacos and beer back on land. Highly recommended, either here or at Ojo de Liebre.

Nice, very nice. Can't see too many whales and your photos are always so good.
We are sitting in San Ignacio right now and once again, had a great whale watching experience today with Kuyima. Fernando is still there and it is
nice that he continues to remember us.

Several years back we found ourselves in San Ignacio on March 25th. We blasted out the road in our truck early AM got to Kuyima at about 8:00-8:30.
They made us some breakfast and then we went out on a boat with two other guys and had a mother and baby encounter including having the panga lifted
out of the water by mom. Unforgettable. When we came back in there were three or four van loads of folks waiting to crowd onto the boats. Can't wait
to get back down. A few other times we camped at Scammons and had some great encounters including watching coyotes digging clams at low tide and
seeing a mother and newborn hanging in the little inlet at the end of campground. I swear I could have waded out and climbed on mom's back.
Good times.
