Pepper Spray?

After the recent posts about the legality of knives in Mexico, I thought I'd ask if anyone knows if we can openly and legally bring in Pepper Spray?

The stuff I have is Bear Spray, and we carry it when in bear country in Alaska (which is everywhere). It's a larger container, and has the words "Bear Repellant" and a picture of a bear on the container (that makes it legal in Canada, whereas regular self-defense pepper spray isn't:O)

Any thoughts?

Unfortunately, pepper spray and bear spray are close in defense......I prefer not to let anyone get that close to me.

Wasp spray, on the other hand, is made to shoot long distance....about fifteen feet.

After about a thousand pages of discussion in various threads on this subject, it was the general consensus thatpepper spray is on the approved list of things to have. Of course, we have to remember where we are and nothing is as it should be when we expect it to be that way. :light:

Defensible space is what the spray creates. There is only one weapon that extends the range of the sprays.

Defensible space

Anything closer than 30 feet is too close.

Thank you all. The Bear Spray has an effective range of 25' and is intended to stop a charging Brown Bear. The stream looks like the one made famous by the UC campus cop that hosed down the Mona Lisa. It's not a mist like the pocket versions produce.

Great idea about the wasp spray! That followed by a blast from my air horn would be pretty distracting.

My goal is to be so much trouble that the baddies move on to easier ground.

30 feet is the outer reaches of wasp & hornet spray. Pepper spray is about 20 feet and bear spray is about 25 feet.

I will stand corrected on my "about" distances.

Carol Kramer from Discover Baja told us bear spray and pepper spray was illegal in Baja. We have wasp spray but the conversation with Carol was before we thought of that.

Next time you speak with Carol, ask her to verify that. I'll bet she can't.

I have previously posted about this subject. Forget the pepper spray......use wasp spray! It's legal....it's a accurate 20 ft spay....It's cheaper.....it's handy as hell.

Always do I have one when hiking (for wild animals)....traveling (for wild humans)... and one in the truck.

Here's a link ....for interesting reading.

I'm with you on that, I've never felt threatened enough
to arm myself with some deterent, who knows that may
change. Have heard the Wasp spray MAY cause permenent
blindness, if I was to use that on a Mex National, I
would hope I could get back across the border before
I had to explain it to a Mex Authority
