Tijuana Bus Schedule to points south
We've got a friend coming down who plans to catch a bus.
We don't want her waiting around the TJ Terminal all night long but we can't find their departure schedule anywhere on-line, by telephone or by asking
at our town's terminal.
Anybody got that info?
Also, what would be the most efficient way for her to cross the border, i.e. is there a bus/shuttle from San Diego County?

Thanks, SQ73
I'm sending the Mexicoach link on to her immediately.
Now, how to get her on a southbound out of TJ quickly?
Anybody got that schedule?

Does San Diego County mean The airport?
If so, walk out front and catch a http://www.sdmts.com/Tripplanner.asp public transit.
Blue line trolley goes to the border. Bus to trolley, trolley to border, walk across.
Tiajuana bus does not go --- it goes to Ensenada where you buy a new ticket to points south along M1
ABC bus station is 100 yards across the border. Catch a bus to Ensenada. They leave every 30, or 60 minutes.
From Ensenada terminal buses depart 5 times daily for points South along MEX 1.
Tell your friend not to cross at night.
A flight from TJ to La Paz is cheaper than the bus.
You were not clear about your start and finish point.

Yes, I've checked the abc routes, of which the furthest destination south is El Rosario. This would lead me to think that the departure times, TJ for
El Rosario, might be the same bus for destinations further south on the peninsula.
Edit: Thanks, JRover and ev'body. So she can hop a bus in TJ but will have to get off in Ensenada and buy a ticket to where she wants to go?
Ok, we're getting there.
Thanks, Everyone.

As pointed out, what is your friends destination in
Baja? As mentioned there is a small ABC station
1 1/2 blks. after you enter into TJ thru the turnstiles,
I believe they only go as far so. as Ensenada, then
transfer to a bus going as far so. as La Paz,
bus to La Paz approx. $130?

Wish there were information more conclusive. |
How far South is she traveling?

Mulegena, My BF uses them exclusively to get to GN and back. But after I read your post I went to the site and saw that you are right!! He says they
go all the way to Cabo from the central station. So I wonder if the website is acting up. Maybe you should give a call? If they discontinued going all
the way south, that will suck for us!
Oops, edit to say to Cabo instead of La Paz and also on the right side of the website it shows photos of destinations in Baja Sur. Who knows, it's
Mexico right? Lol. Good luck my friend.

Girls Just Wanna Have Fun... but safely
Yes, I didn't post her destination because its multiple/flexible but will include travel into Baja Sur directly as her first destination.
I was on the ABC website and have tried their phone number multiple times; it is unanswered.
Basically we just want to get her across the border and onto a bus headed south out of TJ smoothly and safely. She's a world traveled lady and savvy
but I want to help her travel smart.
Another point of question: Will she need to taxi to the Tijuana station? Is there more than one TJ terminal? If so, don't they all converge before
leaving the city southbound?
Sorry for the can of worms, Nomads.

I've bussed TJ/La Paz a few times 22hrs., the TJ Central Bus
station, Central Estacion de Autobus is about 4 mi.+
east of the Border. I was familiar enough to get a TJ
City bus from the border to the Central Bus station,
like $.40, someone who is not familiar with this should
take a cab, might be $10 maybe a bit more. Greyhound
runs from downtown San Diego bus station crossing into Mex and
goes to the Central TJ station. No the Baja bus doesn't
meander in TJ, goes to 1 and on down. Maybe 6 busses
a day from the TJ Central station, the station is big and
not a place I would be intimated/fearful of, plenty of
people probably some security

Perhaps not helpful in this situation, but in all my years driving Baja, I've encountered buses with marking for ABC and Aguila. Did these two
operations merge? Just asking because from year to year, I couldn't help noticing that some years, ABC buses appeared to predominate, with Aquila the
same other times.
That said, I must agree with the idea that a Volaris ticket from TJ to La Paz is most often cheaper than the bus fare. Not to mention the multitude of
hours traveling that is eliminated. And, especially considering that your friend is already going to be crossing the border via bus or van, Why not
just go to the airport?

In yrs. past, Aguila seemed to be a cut under the
ABC busses, back in the day before ABC , Tres Estrellas
de Ora bus would run TJ/La Paz, then if going
to the Cape you would take Aguila. Bus travel for yrs.
was maybe 20% of flying, no mas. Volaris is almost
always cheaper, even with no sale, obviously you won't see the peninsula
out the window, or get off at Ignacio, Sta Rosalia,
Mulege, etc. which to the first time time Baja traveller
may be worth it

an easy way to get to TJ bus depot is to take the Greyhound from the San Diego bus depot that leave every hour...it drives over the border, you get
off the bus, walk through customs and get back on the same bus and it takes you to TJ main bus terminal.
I took it late afternoon to get to the terminal in the early evening for the overnight bus that left around 8 at night. the terminal is a good pretty
safe place to wait...bring a book or people watch and there are restaurants and stores there too so time flies. There are very early morning buses and
evening ones..nothing during the day that goes all the way down.

ditto on doing it shari's way - I have done it a number of times....but there used to be buses running every hour or less ALL DAY LONG until about 8
at night ...
If your friend can afford it - the plane is so sweet compared to the bus ...

Si - take the Greyhound (Broadway and 2nd St. downtown San Diego) to the central bus station. Thre are several bus lines that travel Baja peninsula -
they leave frequently. The clerks are very helpful to decide a schedule. Some don't go all the way down, but will end in GN. You can transfer there.
I had a 3-hr. layover once waiting to transfer - no problem. Took a walk, got a meal, read a book. Do consider when you will be ARRIVING at Mulege -
you wouldn't prefer to arrive at 11:00 pm or 6:00 am. It's a pleasant ride - tell her to bring her own toilet paper and soap.

hey Maria...what about a possible ride share from someone here on Nomad? Sometimes it works out great for both parties and new friendships are
forged...is there an approximate date? Sirena is riding with someone the end of feb. and they have room.

Thank you, Eve'body, so much.
The response has been great and this has turned into a really informative thread.

a definitive answer... sort of, maybe
Here is the real, working phone number for TJ bus station (011 52) 664-621-2863.
My friend called it from the US and someone answered!
The clerk said the cost of a one-way ticket from Tijuana to Mulege would be $1317Pesos; expensive, but that's business and probably accurate. She
also said my friend would have to transfer buses in La Paz... don't think so.
And she is taking Greyhound directly through the border as was suggested-- good call.
