130# Tuna caught in Loreto???

Howdy folks! There is a rumor going around San Carlos Sonora just across the SOC from Santa Rosalia that a 100# Tuna was caught in Loreto in 65 degree water. It is not April 1st yet and in Mexico that day is December 28th 7 days after the End of the World/Mayan Calendar.

Anybody hear about this?

Hahahaha! That is true and funny. Also the place changed. I originally put mulege then I went back to read on our local forum and it said Loreto so I changed that too. Sounds pretty fishy to me!

Here's a pic of the 130# yellowfin caught by Ron and Linda Beitelspacher last Saturday, a week ago today, South of Isla Catalana. I weighed the fish and took the photo.

Here's also a link the the report on Bloodydecks:

And, a photo Linda took of Bad Company, the only other boat fishing on the south reef that afternoon, showing off two they caught from the same school.

I was fishing about 15 miles south for yellowtail that day. A friend took this photo. The fish I'm holding weighed 44#.

It was not a bad day's fishing out of Loreto.

I caught a fish just south of Loreto bigger than the one in the picture. We didn't have a scale but when I got home and developed the picture, the negative weighed 12 pounds.

Van, don't laugh. I caught another big tuna right there by Nopolo a looooong time ago. On that one I didn't have a camera or a scale. We called a grua from Loreto to hoist it up for us and the best I could do was to step off, measure the shadow: 9 feet, 7 inches.
