short term u.s. auto insurance
so what do you full timers do about a u.s. policy when you only travel NOB a few times a year? Is there something similar to the short term mexico
policys?

Would love to hear what insurance company that is and IF anyone has actually had to use the insurance NOB. And how it went, of course.
This assumes US plated vehicles with a US driver's license, correct?

The company is in Texas, I believe, and the name is "National Unity."
That should give you enough info to research it further.
Fortunatly, I haven't had to test the policy, but if asked by CHP, I have insurance.
Yes. US plated cars, currently registered, and a US license.

Most states require you to have and prove, insurance for registration renewal.
If you do the "Elena Britts" solution in lieu of a US policy, what are you doing to keep your stateside registered vehicle.....registered?
I also know that if you allow your US policy to lapse, that company will notify the appropriate DMV of such lapse in coverage.

South Dakota doesn't. You can register by mail.

I know there was a discussion on the so.dakota plates I need to reread..it sucks to carry a annual policy for maybe a couple weeks of driving in the
u.s. what do mexican folks with mexican plates do?

They can buy short term insurance right at the border without even getting out of their car.

In BCN, you need a drivers license (so FM3 or FM2 or better), and a car which is 5-10 model years old, made in North America, and not in certain
restricted classes. My experience:

Once you have a car registered in Baja California, you can get insurance issued in Mexico. Most of these policies include some coverage in the US,
for any length of stay, mostly using National Unity as the US insurance.
My latest policy, from Seguros Atlas, includes full coverage in the US (not Alaska) and Canada directly from Atlas's own US company, so it's a single
