Gonzaga fishing and snorkeling May 19 to 21 suggestions
Some buddies and I are hitting Gonzaga Bay and staying at Alphonsinas for the first time. Looking to do a little fishing and hiring a local. Real
casual stuff. Looking for any knowledge on price of a local panga guy and recommendations for fishing and exploring and snorkeling. Thanks anyone.
I will report back next week.

Hi AZMIKE,
Hope you have a great time at ALFONSINA'S and tell us about it upon your return.
Have you searched the Baja Fishing and Hunting forum for an answer (should nobody come back with one)?
Here is what I could find with what you were asking: http://forums.bajanomad.com/viewthread.php?tid=59210
Welcome to Baja Nomad!

Just a thought here (and don't yell at me you regulars) but while the snorkeling there is fantastic it is not "tropical"...you need to get further
south for that...on the other hand, i actually enjoy it more but if your first time, don't expect a vivid crazy world of colorful reefs. My point
being, the fishing is a lot better!!!!!! If you only have a few days get out on the water and troll close to shore (and I do mean CLOSE) ...good time
of year. Have fun!

Excellent area to have fun at.
Panga guys run around $70.00 for two...extra for each additional.
Gas/market/several camps/motel.....all open.
Check papafernandez.com for day to day temps.
One can get a Skipper and a good meal too here:
http://www.papafernandez.com/
Read this about the area:

Swimming, snorkeling, hiking is excellent over there at Mt Snoopy......over the hill at Punta Final. Road is near the old house...may have a chain
across it...ask around and someone will open it. Primitive camp

Old people are like the old cars, made of some tough stuff. May show a little rust, but good as gold on the inside.

The people at ALFONSINA'S have allways taken good care of us. Just let them know what you want to do, no need to look else where. We have done
fishing/dive trips even had them leave at a deserted beach then come pick us back up after a few hrs.

Gonzaga Bay
Thanks to everyone for all the info. We drove from Phoenix AZ to Gonzaga in one day taking approx 12 hours but we stopped often for tacos in
Algodones and at the Cowpatty in Puertocitos. Great hot dogs at the cow patty. The road from San Felipe to Puertocitos is an experience with the
dips. Hard to explain to anyone who has not driven the road. We got off the path a little once the road turned to dirt but the friendly construction
workers let us know. The Federales were very professional and though a teen ager with a machine gun is a site in itself they are the good guys and we
knew that. It's a little bumpy but nothing terrible. We did it in a 2 wheel drive standard truck. A car could do it with a lttle caution.
Alfonsinas was great. Our favorite quote is when we asked Antonio for the key and he replied " no key, no problemo". Staying at a hotel without keys
was an experience. Food was great and very reasonable at Alfonsinas. We mainly dealt with Antonio and a new guy Rafael. The store accross from the
pemex was very well stocked and again the prices very good for the remote location.
We asked about fishing but the captain wanted $170.00 for 3 of us so we passed. Some other guys got a few cabrillo but that was it. It was
partially the price and also it was pretty hot so we just swam and snorkeled.
Thank you McFez for the info about Punta Final and the snorkeling area. We snorkeled all the way around Mt Snoopy and realy enjoyed it. Saw
dolphins and whale sharks/ basking sharks in Gonzaga bay each day. Drove towards Cocos but did not get there but had fun just driving into the
mountain range. Incredible beauty but very slow going.
We arrived on a saturday and the place was full but Sunday night we had the place to ourselves almost. Waking up at midnight to check out the stars
was one of the high points as there is absolutely no light pollution. l Thanks again to everyone for the info. It sure helped planning the trip.

Thank you for the trip report!
Yeah...............no keys for the room :-) The first time we we told that...we just laughed and laughed........ what a relief it was to be so far
away from "civilization".
Star glazing.............why I still do primitive camping. Just love to lay there in my bag.......such a sight.
Glad Snoopy treated you well.

The paved road arrival will change that... "Bad Roads bring Good People... Good Roads bring 'All Kinds' of People" (Anita Espinoza).
Nice trip report, sounds like other than the fishing cost all went well.

Great report and sounds like a fantastic time in a wonderful place...and you did it before the finished road and the "change"!
But gotta say, $170.00 for three people for a day of fishing is pretty darn reasonable...by the time they get the boat ready and take you out and
clean the fish you are talking about 10 hours of time plus the gas and maybe a few sparkplugs when you snag on the bottom and lose all your weights
(reasonable of course if you catch some fish...if not....hmmmmm)
