How do you go about turning in your FM3?
We have come to a crossroad and it is time to move on. How do we go about turning in our FM3's ? If in the future we don't want to be penalized if we
ever decide to apply again. Any info will help.

I heard from a friend today that they had to pay a penalty when they turned in their FM"s early. You might just want to let it go to expiration and
then not do anything with it.

Heck......just let it expire. If you need it again just pay the penalty. You are gonna have to pay something anyway at some ;point.

I still get 2 per year and have only turned one in once.
The guy at the Tecate crossing, where I walked back across to do the returning, immediately went about filling out another one for me.
He looked really surprised that I was turning one in.
That said, there should be an address to mail it in, and the only fine is if you get caught with an EXPIRED one, you know, that actually falls out of
your passport in the immigration office.

an fm3 is different from a tourist visa...
you need to cancel it
if you dont the fines can be hugr if you dont renew
my advice is cancel at your local office or embassy in usaa
as long as you have documentation
as for computers...oh dennis...welcome to the future

Don't ask us. Ask your Inmigrado officer.
Ask before it expires.
Note the name of the officer who you speak with so you have reference and recourse at a later date if you should decide to turn it in.
Any moneys due Inmigrado, including a possible exit fine, should only be paid in the bank and with a receipt. If they ask you for any money other than
a receipted bank payment, it is an in-pocket illegal bite they're taking out of your wallet. You have the option of saying no to that.

Got this name from a past thread about turning in an FM2. I've emailed Gonzalez about turning in an FM2 asking if he would accept it and he
responded yes. Never followed through so don't know anything more. Do a search for his email address which I've misplaced.

Go to the Mexican Embassy, consulate, on India Street in San Diego and talk with them.

We did it last year because we wanted a different renewal date. In La Paz, we turned in our FM3 cards with a letter in Spanish as to why we were
cancelling our FM3 and they gave us a "tourist card" so we could leave the country....If you are not in Mexico, go to the Mexican Embassy as advised
above to formally turn it in. If you wish to return to Mexico in the future, or remain in Mexico without FM3 status you must relinquish or exchange
your FM3 before it's renewal date.
