July: looking for travel companions or convoy

I'm planning on crossing into Baja late June or early July. It'll be my first time in Mexico and driving solo in a VW van so I'm looking to meet up with some people to share camping or traveling and adventure with, at least for the first little bit. Planning on taking my time driving south and if things go well, cross over to the mainland and beyond... I am 34, male, from Canada, like climbing, hiking, camping, novice at surfing, I am laid back and friendly. Any advice, especially for good beach camping spots when traveling alone, would be appreciated as well. Thanks!

It's the best time of year to go...keeps the tourists away because they're afraid of the heat, but let me tell you that you can find some fantastic places in the middle of the summer on the Baja Peninsula. And you can always take a short trip across the peninsula to the Pacific side to get away from the heat...say San Carlos, Seven Sisters, the list goes on.

Enjoy!

I'm cruising around in a 1973 bus myself. Drop me a PM if you have questions. I'd certainly stop in to see my buddy Jim before hitting Mexico. He can either point you to a good mechanic or give your bus a good once over before hitting the border. The guy is a genius.

He did this with a new engine after I blew a rod on the way south.
