Passport Expiration
A friend of mine is coming to Baja for 10 days this month. His US passport expires in September...any problem getting a Mexican visa? I recall you
can request a specific number days for the visa, i.e., he could specify a numbers of days that does not go beyond his US passport exipration...?

he can ask for 180 days. the guy at the booth prolly just looks to see if it is expired or not. otherwise he'll have to find a calculator and figure
out how many days before your friend is in the country illegally. don't worry about it for 10 days....

Some migras are stricter than others. I know of not just a few cases where INM flatly refused to issue an FMM with less than 180 days validity left on
the US passport. My advice is to find Nomads that have actually obtained -recently- an FMM with far less than 180 days showing on their passport.

I wouldn't think the traditional 6 mo. validity left
on a Passport to enter a country would apply.
I'm going to say no problema, maybe, I imagine it
depends on what Immigration Mex officer you are dealing with though, 1 guy may not care, the next could
go by the letter of the Regs.If a question comes up, I would plead ignorance, and as you suggested get an fmm for
time he is in Baja. I can't remember when getting
an airline ticket to Mex, what is required

might be different depending on whether he is flying in or driving in. the drive/walk in office seems to be more lax. He should probably get himself
an expedited passport. That would be the best.

Why take the chance on travelling with a passport with less than 6 months validity?
Just get a new one and you're good for another 10 years. You gotta do it eventually anyway!

If he is flying, tell him to check with his airline. They wont issue the ticket if it isnt allowed.

Also, anybody know about the large kiosk, multiple lanes going south and signed as a military check point south os Ensenada? Has it opened and are
they checking for visas; and, I assume a visa will be necesarry for going into Baja Sur.

In all the years I have been in Mexico I have never had a soldado ni marina ask me for my tourist card. The marinas and sometimes la armada will ask
to see a fishing license when in a boat.
But the SSP is different. The PFP is under the same judicial system and both have asked to see my tourist card, then FM-3, FM-2 then credencial
residencia. They are entitled by federal law to do so. I read it out of a codigal federal book on Mex 200 sitting in the shade of a parota tree, with
the capítan de SSP from Petlatlán Guerrero. Any Mexican cop can legally demand to see evidence of legal stay in Mexico. Los Bajas Californias are a
lot looser than el otro lado.
So forget about the militar asking to see a tourist card. Migracion could if they wanted station someone there as spot checker. But historically
Maneadero has been the INM Migracion checkpoint,
