Moving goods to baja
I have questions about this process. Last weekend I moved a couple of trailer loads to our new house in la mision. We went through through san ysidro,
but were re directed to otay mesa, as we had to much stuff. Here is what I know. DO NOT use any of the brokers in the bigger building, go straight to
the small Aduana shack. The brokers tried to charge me over 600.00 dollars, walked out, did a re manifest with the small shack, and it was 180.00
dollars. I believe you could get by with a small truckload at san ysidro, but any larger, they are not equipped to handle it. My main question is that
I thought you were alllowed to bring in a certain amount duty free to the free zone? Do we need to show FMM for the next load to alleviate charges. Im
sure we didnt overpay for the amount of crap we had, but paying nothing is even better. Thanks, Folks...... house in La Mision BCN.

a fmm visa is a tourist visa...you get to leave nothing in mexico
for the other stuff...you play you pay
you did the right thing...
the aduana guys just estimated...thus the lower tax
the broker was looking at a total retail value

In a few weeks I will be taking our household goods across the border. We will have a 10' enclosed trailer behind our truck which will also have stuff
in the back. This is all used stuff, household stuff, boxes of stuff. We have FM2's, what is our best approach? My plan was to cross at TJ and see
what happens. Anybody have first hand experience or advice?

You will "probably" be sent to Otay and told to get a broker, however this is Mexico and YMMV

i would go to tj first...pack correctly
put vacation stuff in the back
to directly yo secondary and ask what you need to pay
tell them you'll pay ANYTHING that's due
you'll pay a small fee and be on your way
at otay mesa i've had trouble in the past with a trailer AND a truck load
they like it all in one vehicle
i've had to move it all to the trailer then repack after the importation
good luck

Visa
On the visa issue, We were told we had to get the temporary visa for buying the house, BEFORE we signed the papers. If we do get the FM2 visa in 6
months, does that then mean we can take household goods free of charge? Sorry for the ignorance. Thanks.
