Last I saw, there was about 40 miles of dirt left, but it was still better than the pot holes out of Vizcaino to the BA turnoff.

Udo...one does what one would hope another amigo would do for them! But this situation is a good example why it is important to have a phone number of
someone who will come and help you if things go wrong. The area he broke down in is a cell phone dead zone but we got a call from some baseball
players that stopped to help him when they arrived in Vizcaino...so we could do the rescue. I wouldnt want to spend a scary night out on a desolate
road...it's just not safe...so of course we respond to people's problems...even if it means losing sleep.

2 cents worth from Vizcaino to the B.A. junction...
Road is OK from Vizcaino past the walled farms on the right.
When you can just make out the twin microwave towers straddling the road, slow down and beware. There are a couple of really bad spots maybe thirty
meters long where I, in a small car, have to come to almost a complete stop and ease across the craters. The road from then on has some short decent
pavement, but if you see a pavement color change ahead, slow way down. There are the odd potholes here and there but it seems especially like near the
crest of those low ridges that cross the roadway.
Keep one eye on your rear view mirror. Idiots whom are determined to thrash a new pickup truck come up from behind doing 50 KM faster than "normal"
and won't hesitate to cut you off forcing you to perhaps go into a patch of potholes. I cannot overemphasize the importance of not being surprised
from behind. Also there are some, not a lot (but it only takes one) steers around halfway between Vizcaino and the B.A. junction.
From the junction to Bahia Tortugas is unknown to me.
Yes, of course, this changes as vehicles expand and deepen the bachis but hopefully the above is better-than-nothing.

Your description is very good and quite accurate. And just to make one really very happy to turn off onto the good road in BA, there is one last big
pothole right before the turn.

@everybody, thanks sooo much for the status on the road conditions. i did this adventure last year, and from what i gathered the conditions was
better last year. for sure i'll slow my roll.
@shari, i can't begin to say how time, and time again you, and juan go above and beyond to help. last year the cell dead zone almost got me, but i
was able to make it to vizcaino. i did have two trucks stopped, and asked if i needed help. i don't know if you still have my cell#, but i have a
place at socorro near san quintin....always ready to return a favor.
@davidE, thanks....great play by play. slow and easy. i am pulling my boat again.

Hi Tony...I rarely use yelling caps but WOOOO HOOOO....THE POT HOLED PART OF THE ROAD IS BEING FIXED...AND WELL!!!
This has been such a sore spot for all of us on this part of the peninsula and boy are we happy it is being repaired....but there are still some
doozies by the ranches coming out of Vizcaino.

I would watch for the crew that makes the potholes also, seems they work faster then the crew filling them.

Last Thursday: Heading east, there is new pavement on the Tortugas road as far as I could see. That is, looking west from the junction with the Bahia
Asuncion road (which is all good, fast pavement).
Now, from the junction, east to Vizcaino it is MOSTLY good pavement... HOWEVER, the 25% or less of that road that is pothole city, sure ruins the
greater part that isn't. A bad paved road is far worse than most any dirt road, because you expect it to stay good and it is hard to go slow on a good
paved road. But, when you get up to speed and suddenly come upon holes in the pavement, it can really sour your day!
