Lady fish in BOLA?
Last week we got into schools of lady fish in the south bay at BOLA. I don't ever recall catching them or hearing of them caught before in this area.
I think the furthest north I have caught them was in Conception. Is this unusual or have I had the good fortune to miss them all these years?

We would catch them off the beach at San Francisquito, just south of BOLA. Right in front of the resort.

Thats odd we never caught any in BOLA but got a few at Gonzaga from time to time,the south bay around the estro can be a fun place with surprises.

Anyone can catch fish in a boat but only \"El Pescador Grande\" can get them from the beach.
I hope when my time comes the old man will let me bring my rod and the water will be warm and clear.

we got some great big ones at mulege last week...first time i've seen them there too....fun on light tackle.
dyslexia is never having to say you\'re yrros.

Your lucky if the rooster fish follow them up.
Are lady fish edible?
I've tossed out so many dead left overs from the bait tank.

Lady fish as I recall are very good baits for the roosters. A poor mans tarpon..

Their favorite habitat are rocky points that are essentially underwater cliffs. Deep sharp dropoffs right next to a rocky shoreline. If they're over
sand it usually means there is a school of sardinas that's attracted them. I've also caught them at Gonzaga Bay 2 winters ago.
They're really abundant on the east cape, though. Cerralvo. Punta Arena. Los Muertos. They come in in the evening and really pound the baitfish. A
good time to flyfish.

Santiago, we were in the south bay about a month age and there was 1" anchovies schooled up along the shore 20 feet from the sand and a dark band for
miles up the beach down near the estuary. have they grown up and dispersed yet?
out near the islands there was even more bait. we'd chase the birds crasing but never pulled anything from under them......

We were sight casting to 10# yellowtail in the afternoons along the red rock shore directly across from our place at Gecko. I picked up a 24" +/-
bass in the same place - maybe the biggest one I've ever caught. My largest largemouth bass was 11# and this was at least as large as that. I dropped
him in a 5 gal HomeDepot bucket and his tail hit the bottom, curled up about a third of the way to the top and his head still stuck out. It was a good
afternoon, fer sure. My rig was a Penn Sargus spooled with 25# braid on a Loomis 8.5' steelhead rod. My buddy had a 4000 size spinning reel on a
stripped bass rig, fer goodness sakes. Talk about being under rigged.
We were just going to go out in the afternoon to catch a few bass for tacos and got into this. A panga with a couple of locals pulled up to see what
the whooping and hollering was all about and just shook their heads. Can't say I blame them right there.
