Obama's new immigration announcement............

So a little history........

I am fiscally conservative, not a further right tea party guy

I have lived in AZ for over 40 years

I own a house in San Felipe and have spent many years traveling most parts of Mexico

I am not an Obama fan, at all

However, I have to say that I agree with his approach that allows younger illegals to stay in the USA and get a workers permit if...

Under 30

Have been in the US since they were younger children

Have graduated high school/college

Have been in the military (who knew you could get into the military without proving citizenship?)

No criminal record

So I know that this is being used as a political ploy and that is crap, however, after reading an article out of the LA Times about how Mexicali has turned into a city for young folks who don't have Mexican paperwork or US paperwork, I think that this is a humane solution for young folks who were brought here as small children under no control of their own.

Am I a total looser in the eye's of my fellow conservatives or is it time that we start addressing these issues that we have been dealing with for so many years and we have to start some where?

we try to make everyone in the world happy, at the expense of our own citizens/taxpayers. think pakistan/egypt/japan/latin america/africa..... to the tune of BILLIONS of dollars a year. Obama was quoted saying, "shovel ready" then admitted there never was a program. now, if you listen closely he's on the stump spouting off about "infrastructure."

when are we going to take care of our own?

Why would this topic be erased?

If you read the topic it is more about my conflicted thinking.

I consider myself a fan of President Obama, and I agree with this approach to aiding young people in the US without documentation (as opposed to the conservative term, 'illegals').

I wish the best to these young people and their future..

CortezBlue, A while back this same topic came up and had quite a few posts, then it disappeared. I don't know why it was erased. I share your opinion and take a conservative stance on most issues.

Cortez, I agree. I believe it's in our best interest as a country to incorporate these kids into our society.

I guess I am conflicted by the way that it was presented. I always thought, constitutionally, this had to come from the legislative branch and not the executive branch, or does this fall under the judicial branch due to it being performed by ICE and or border patrol?

Checks and balances are like Chex Mix, you never know what you're going to get

a little compassion, please

My gosh, yes, give these young people a chance... and a country. They've grown up on US soil, simply undocumented; in my eyes not illegal which connoted malicious intent and subversion against society.

The perspective "...we have to take care of our own first..."
well, these people are your own, and through no fault of their own.
This is what makes the United States of America unique.
Including the red man, my mixed ancestry, we're a nation of blended immigrants.

Remember, when they stepped ashore so long ago your ancestors were illegals.

i think the EXACT quote was more like this, "when are we going to take care of our own?"

unlike the words you placed in my mouth, "...we have to take care of our own first..."

my people were immediate followers of the Mayflower, kicked out of the UK as undesirables. i don't know what they were back then but their home country considered them rubbish.

luckily for some who may be expats (perhaps part of the 1%?) and may not still be working their asssess off trying to secure a middle class future for their families, our perspectives are vastly different and don't make apples to apples perspectives easily understood.

i'm not trying to be a diick, am i having any success? i really shouldn't have even commented on this political topic. too easily misunderstood or taken out of context-like your quote above demonstrates.

i could be wrong, but my reality is still what it is.....:light:

Here a link to an article on the left leaning Salon website about why there hasn't been a huge GOP backlash:
