The EDC Signed a Memorandum Of Agreement

With the U.S & Foreign Commercial Service and U.S. Department of Commerce to increase trade between the U.S. and Mexico

"To consolidate this business partnership they signed a Memorandum of Agreement with Tijuana EDC, represented by the Chairman of the Board David Mayagoitia.

The signing ceremony included the participation of the U.S. Consul General in Tijuana Steven Kashkett, The Mayor of Tijuana Carlos Bustamante, Baja California State Tourism Secretary Juan Tintos Funcke, and Director of International Trade at Mexico's Ministry of Economy Juan Carlos Baker. The US Trade Delegation included representatives of the US Chamber of Commerce and corporations such as FEDEX.

This MOA provides a framework under which the two entities will collaborate by supporting companies who are seeking to do business in Baja California, as well to provide Mexican companies access to U.S. trade shows and commercial events to promote their products and services internationally.

The document establishes that the US&FCS and Tijuana EDC will work together to identify, develop market, and implement export promotion and cross-border business events and programs; they will also exchange information as appropriate regarding trade leads. In addition it establishes the access of US&FCS to Tijuana EDC Business Center.

Assistant Secretary Camuñez highlighted the MOA as a measure "that will increase competitiveness in the U.S. and Mexico", adding that the U.S. Department of Commerce values its partnerships with municipal economic development organizations...to promote economic growth in the two countries.

"Investment in Baja California has a ripple effect across the border," Ambassador Wayne said. "It not only creates jobs in Baja but also creates jobs in engineering and technical support offices in the United States as well as market opportunities for U.S. industrial suppliers."

David Mayagoitia Chairman of the Tijuana EDC, commented "this agreement will facilitate the flow of business in the border region, helping local companies promote their businesses in the U.S. as well as helping U.S. companies find business opportunities and new markets in the Baja region".

About Tijuana EDC: The Tijuana EDC is a nonprofit corporation dedicated to help companies to establish successful manufacturing operations in Mexico and to take advantage of business opportunities of vertical integration introducing qualified Mexican suppliers and accessing new markets.
