Border week: Tijuana's Gloria Campobello dance school turns 50

"A look at notable upcoming events in the cross-border region for week of July 9-15.

"Tuesday: Tijuana celebrates its 123rd birthday in downtown's Teniente Guerrero Park with family-oriented festivities that include Mexican mariachi music and cake. From 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. Free.

Friday and Saturday: Baja Beer Fest Tijuana featuring more than 40 local breweries takes place on Avenida Revolución between Seventh and Eighth streets in front of the Jai Alai building. On Friday from 2 p.m. until midnight, and Saturday from noon until midnight. Admission 70 pesos (about $5.20).

Friday-Sunday: Theater, dance, music, and visual arts will be featured in the fourth Multiarte Festival on and around Avenida Revolución. For up-to-date information, go to "Queremos Tijuana" in Facebook. Free.

Saturday: The fifth San Diego-Tijuana Fandango Fronterizo takes place on both sides of the border. Musicians will gather at San Diego's Friendship Park and in Tijuana near the Playas de Tijuana lighthouse. Saturday: The Gloria Campobello Dance School celebrates 50 years of teaching in Tijuana with a performance at Tijuana's Cultural Center (Cecut). Guest performers include dancers from the Ballet de Monterrey, the Ballet Nacional de Cuba, the choreography workshop of the National Autonomous University of Mexico, the Compañía Nacional de Danza, the Ballet del Noroeste de Mexico and the Grupo de Danza Minerva Tapia. At 8 p.m. at Tijuana's Cultural Center (Cecut). Tickets are 250 pesos (about $18.50)."

Sunday: Tijuana hosts its second marathon, and 18th half-marathon. Runners will take off at 6:30 a.m. from the Abraham Lincoln traffic circle in the Río Zone.
