Arts & Beer

On our last trip to San Jose we drove by Arts & Beer south of Todos Santos. We thought about stopping and checking it out, but we figured maybe next time. Have any Nomads stopped for lunch or drink. How is it?:?:;D

The place has some killer drinks and has been popular for a long time. However, the owner is a real jerk! If your not hungry & don't want to eat you can't use the bathroom kinda thing. Lots of stories of insults so most locals don't go anymore, mostly tourist and some Cabenos. Remember the Soup N-zi?! Let us know if you visit. Tio

Took a friend to Art & Beer about 6 years ago. We ordered Pacifico's. Brought us our beers and a plate of very good chocolate clams. Very
tasty. When we asked for our check (had 4 beers) they charged us 200
pesos for the clams. We stated that we did not order the clams. The response was, "no, but you ate them." My friend and I are locals for 15
years. Needless to say, we have never been back.

Neighbors and friends of mine in Pesky were 86'd when the owner made some bizarre comment and they responded. Forget what it was -- sounded like the owner was off the wall.

Not going there -- might punch this guy.

The owners now require a 40 peso minimum for anyone to enter the bar or restaurant area. Mostly because they have invested a lot of money lately to putting in a long woonden walk-way out into the desert as well as many new and VERY large sculptures around the property. Alfredo, the owner, also doesn't want people rambling around gawking at his paying customers.

He now serves free clams with all orders and if they are not in season, a nice plate of chips with a great salsa. He also gives every person a free beer when they leave.

His mixed drinks are $160 pesos but they are about the same size as 3 from any other bar.

He does get testy and he does have a gruff personality. He has been known to lose his temper and attack when provoked. His wife, Lourdes is a sweetheart of a woman.

Might be a medical condition as well. But, the personality disorder? Driving people away is bad PR. Guessing he doesn't care. He's doing something right being with a sweetheart.

Thank you for the reply. It really doesn't sound like our kind of place. We'll stop in La Paz and have lunch at the Shack before heading south. Gracias CJ:cool:
