Construction South of Mexicali?

I drove the Mex 5 in May of this year and the construction wasn't too bad...
I'm planning on trailering my boat down south of San Felipe and was told it might be better to go through TJ and then take the Mex 3 up and over...
has anyone driven it recently?

6 weeks ago there was a 20 mile detour alongside the road widening. The detour was in good shape then, but your call. It was from La Ventana to the new mine.

Between Laguna Salada and the Chinero check point there are four detours.. 8.5, 3.0 and two about a mile long. On the way down, 9/11, they were muddy cause of the recent rain, on the way out 9/15 they were dusty! They need more grader work and are rough, but you can go 25-30-mph easily, just dodge the pot holes!

Be aware that it changes day to day. Good luck. Let us know the most recent detours. Nancy

On Thursday Sept 13 it was 13 miles--rough but dry & not as rough as on Wed Sept 12 as they had re-graded some of it.

came up from Mulege Sat. Had to drop my speed down to under 60 on the detours other then that you can pull any trailer down right now. Road south is almost complete within 3-4 miles of the military check point noth of Gonzaga Bay. I think Coco is building a new toll booth ready to collect for using his new road. 20 pesos or a Tecate
