LaPaz to Mazatlan Ferry and rental suggestions?

1. Has anyone ridden the ferry from LaPaz to Mazatlan recently?
We are going to MZT in Nov. for 10 days and wonder about meals and how the cabins are on the ferry.

2. Has anyone suggestions for a 10 day rental in Mazatlan.
We are going over to meet my son and family from Alaska and would like a small unit with a kitchen, secure parking for our pickup and that will accept our 2 well traveled, behaved dogs.
Something in the $50 to $60 per day range.

I'm asking on the Mazatlan forum board too, but thought there might be some input from this side of the SOC.

Thanks.

la paz ferry

We have taken the ferry to Mazatlan in January and returned in March the last two years and plan to do so again this year. The rooms are small but comfortable. I would definitely plan on getting a room. They have bathrooms including showers. Try to get a room with a window. You'll be served dinner on the way out and breakfast in the morning. Both ways. There are maybe two choices of entrees at each meal with ample side dishes. They have an area outside on the deck that is available for dogs. It's right next to the garbage bins, but it is outside. Not sure how the dog thing works because we don't have one right now. Not sure if you will be able to access your vehicle to get the dogs out for a short time or what. We usually go to La Paz to make our reservations, get the truck measured, and get the import sticker for the truck a month before we plan to get on. I am sure you could do it the same day, though you might want to call ahead for reservations. We were told that they often sell out of cabins. FYI last March on our return north winds were howling on the SOC and we ran several hours behind schedule but the ride, while bumpy, was amazingly comfortable. Only the driver is allowed in the vehicle when you are loading. The passengers will have to walk on ahead, so make sure you make arrangements to meet in the cafeteria or somewhere. Beds are twin beds and comfortable enough but I was glad to have my own pillow last trip. Any more questions, feel free to U2U me or ask on the board.

I just finished making the ferry reservations.

The dogs will be in a special holding area in kennels and we will be able to access them during the trip.

Good tip on the cabin with a window. Thanks.

Also from the MazInfo board found the Marianna Hotel and Apartments. The people who own it are fantastic and it is right across from Gus Gus, so it is conveniently located. There apartments run around 50 dollars a night.

So we're well on our way now.

Thanks.

My Bud and I did this in February. I would book ahead online for a cabin unless you want to spend sixteen hours in a theater seat in a TV lounge. Our cabin was neat. A desk, two long bunks, and full bath and it's on the O1 deck (wheelhouse level). You get two meals, and beer and wine if you want, in the cafeteria.
Pets may be a problem. They are not allowed above, and you are not allowed below where your vehicle is while underway. I would check on this since I do not travel with pets so it was not an issue.

This is the response I got from the Marianna this morning when I asked about pickup parking and dogs.

"Yes, we have a parking lot across the street and we are absolutely pet friendly. Usually we have our own little pooper here as well...he is often the Hotel mascot, but he is visiting relatives at the moment. We charge a bit of a damage deposit but as long as your babies don't eat the furniture....you get it back.
We do a bit of a discount if you are staying over a week so we can hook you up in an apartment with one bedroom, kitchen, bathroom and living room for $5000 pesos. There is a TV in all rooms and free wireless internet. And since you know the Bugambilias...you know we are right off the beach. Awesome dog walking!"
