AFTER one gets to Mazatlan via ferry...

so as not to hijack another post, I'll just watch that one for info on the La Paz to Mazatlan ferry...

so, I'm trying to get to Puerto Vallarta in November. is it possible to take a bus along the coastal route or must one go to Tepic then Guadalajara and back?

reality\'s never been of much use out here...

I think you can get the bus from MZT to Tepic and then another one to PV without having to go through Guad.

That would be quite a detour.

Maybe join up with the yahoo groups Mazinfo board and pose your coastal bus question there.

I am getting a wealth of info from them about the ferry and stuff.

My wife makes this trip often and always goes to Tepic and then down to P. Vallarta. She says there's a "direct" bus to P. V. that leaves from the Central Camionera in Mazatlan at 0900 but she doesn't know if that means it bypasses Tepic, or simply that you don't have to get off the bus in Tepic as she's never taken that one.

There most certainly is but one side to every story: the TRUTH. Variations of it are nothing but lies.

I did that trip once. A trick I learned is when in Mazatlán buy a bus ticket to Tepic and then when you arrive in Tepic buy a ticket to PV. If you try to buy a ticket in Mazatlán to PV your options are limited. But there are constantly busses going to Tepic and when you get to Tepic there are many options to get to PV.
